Thermal decomposition of cyanuric acid in the presence of an alkali base yields cyanates and carbon oxides.

Physical

Cyanuric acid is an odorless white solid, poorly soluble in water.

Availability

Cyanuric acid is available as chlorine stabilizer in swimming pools and can be purchased from hardware stores.

Preparation

Can be prepared by thermal decomposition of urea. It is also created when generating chlorine from TCCA and hydrochloric acid, which is rather unpractical for the preparation of cyanuric acid because of the large amounts of chlorine being produced. Rather, it's much cheaper to simply buy the compound.
