Gorgeous. As usual. But that Rb is pricey stuff. I am going to have to think about that one.

MrHomeScientist - 27-11-2018 at 06:30

Damn, and I just bought that other stuff from you! Would have been nice to have it all in one package, especially because my post office is annoying about making me sign for this stuff. Rb is the last element I need for my collection.

diddi - 27-11-2018 at 13:07

bahaha. my order arrived yesterday. i got some crystalline Nb and electrolytic Cr, a B rod and a couple of nice coloured Co salts. There was no Rb offered when i ordered either. Whilst a little dear, their stuff is very nice quality.

i got my Rb from Tom a while back

congrats on almost complete collection. are you displaying them and what have you excluded below 92?

Thanks! I posted a thread on my element display here, 5 years ago now! http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=23289

To celebrate the naming of the final 4 elements on the current table, I'm planning on making a new display. Currently in prototype stage. Being able to place the final element on the new shelf is another good motivator!

The radioactive exclusions are Tc and Pm. I'd love to get one of those medical Tc "cows" as an interesting item for that slot, some day.
I don't really have samples for Po, At, Rn, Fr, Ac, and Pa either, but instead represent them with vials of uranium ore. U's decay chain ensures that I technically have a few atoms of those in there somewhere :)
I also have one beyond 92: Am, from a smoke detector (technically the oxide), and that also takes care of Np and Pu via decay.

As I was typing this I realized I'm actually also still missing palladium, but that's easily resolved at my local metal bullion store. (once prices go down!)

i have the same exclusions. trying to scam a Tc99M pig also. hard to get. i have used trinitite with gamma spectrum for Pa, Pu etc
I am all finished except for F2 in a viewable form. i have it in mineral antozonite where it is free F2, not the fluoride. Pd is a bit pricey atm. but i dont see it dropping. luckily i have it already. My display is being housed in a shipping container. bit of a project so i have to save for materials.

yes i now remember seeing your post and the effort you made with LED to make it somewhat interactive. i am still trying to devise an interactive part of the display. would like to use a laptop and big screen and possibly control some sort of lighting display via USB. cant really pin down what i should aim for at this stage

Controllability via laptop or phone app was my ultimate goal too, but it never came together. My idea was to make quizzes that would light up the choices and correct element, as one part of it. I also have antozonite and was very excited to get my sample! It sounds like visible fluorine is a hell of a difficult task, though. This is the only example I've found of it: http://theodoregray.com/periodicTable/Elements/009/index.htm...

It's crazy how much technology has changed since I built that display, too. The back of the board is a huge mess of wires and daisy-chained controller boards. Nowadays you can control everything from one board, and separate strips have nice solderless connectors you can use. The new design will (hopefully) be a breeze.

Have already collected most elements till U (+Am as smoke detector "pin").
Po as Firestone spark plug, Th as TIG electrode and U as ore.
Don't have Tc, Pm, At, Rn, Fr, Ra, Ac and Pa.

But kind of work with Tc :)

I almost lost it, because again you posted something new right after I ordered from you! Literally only a few hours ago!

But I'm satisfied with what I got, and am looking forward to it. :D Thanks for offering us such cool stuff.
