but there are many glitches upon further inspection.
The alcohol group of the cyanohydrin may become a functional group off the lactone ring, you may get double nitriles then you have to consider
protecting groups or selective reaction conditions.
of course if the initial halohydrin is circumvented this thread has wandered off its basic course.....
