I have recently been trying to synthesize 5-َATZ based on US 5451682, example 2.
All my raw materials were high purity and for laboratory synthesis.
After adding warm Di-ionised water to three neck flat bottom flask containing of 1-cyanoguanidine, boric acid, and sodium
azide amounts, I started the reflux at the same time as the solution was stirred(before boiling). The oil bath was used for safety and the proper
distribution of heat in this process.
I only used about 0.3 g more than the amount of sodium azide.
All materials were dissolved in water, but no slight orange color was observed.
Researchers who have done this experiment, please give their comments and experiences.
