Synthesis of a BOP reagent?

Agent MadHatter - 27-7-2009 at 20:08

How would one synthesize a BOP reagent?

(Benzotriazole-1-yl-oxy-tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphonium hexafluorophosphate)

or would it just be easier to buy some HBTU?

ammonium isocyanate - 27-7-2009 at 21:28

I can't think of any easy laboratory route to this compound. It would be better just to buy it, as it can be gotten relatively cheaply in small quantaties.

Are you planning on using this for peptide synthesis?

Personally I think you should slow down a little. Given your other threads, particularly the one on phosphorus trichloride, this is probably a little beyond your current ability. I know I would need more than a quick refresher before I would try to build any reasonable size peptide chain.

Try reading up on peptide chemistry in the organic chemistry or biochemistry sections here. Also remember that Sciencemadness has a great library available. I know I can spend hours browsing through the books there.

Sorry for the possibly stupid question, but do you know who I should contact to gain access to the library?

If I buy HBTU, will I have any trouble buying it for personal use?

I know alot of chemical companies don't sell for personal use because meth labs.

So this isn't an illegal substance is it?
