Dirty mag stirrer

madcease - 25-11-2009 at 05:33

Got a real dirty mag stirrer that needs to be cleaned.
its a ika rct basic model which has a steel plate on top which is hard to get into sections to clean can i soak the whole unit in ipa? Maybe not the plastic but all the metal should be fine?

Most of the dirtyness is oil from spills in oil bath

Why not soak a cotton cloth in IPA and just wipe the stirrer with it?

Ohhh.... magnetic. Right. Yes, IPA. ;)

Thanks was thinking ipa but only could find toly, mek, methyl spirits, methanol lol but no bloody ipa
So which one should do the job?

Also do these units dissasemble so the inside can be cleaned as well? I think i tried once and couldnt get plate out
But even the Plate itself is dirty asss

thanks guyz

I'm confused why would you soak the whole thing in anything? If it's dirty from oil splatter it would only be on the plate correct? If the plate is steel (odd material these are usually ceramic) why can't you use steel wool or a drill with a metal scrubber bit? I don't see any of those solvents being particularly effective against burnt on oil especially a polar solvent like IPA and a non-polar substance like oil.
