i have this model of pump, single stage, 5Pa max vacuum, 1/3HP price 60€. i don't have a vacuum gauge yet but i can assure you that it can pull a vacuum (i made a crt with it). it gets hot after a while, i never used it for more than 10 minutes ( just to evacuate a 1L bottle not bigger volumes), if you are going to run it for hours maybe a second fan is necessary, or maybe after it pulled most of the air the work is less so the heat is less.

I have a pump essentially identical to the one pictured above. It is used for many vacuum distillations and will consistently pull 0.2 - 0.3 mm Hg. I have to bleed it in order not to have too much vacuum. It does run a bit hot but I have run it for as much as 1.5 hr with no problem. The oil is changed religiously and I am careful not to pull volatiles into the pump. It is really a good value pump for the home lab.

i have also the same pump since about a year and its better than i thought. i used it once for more than 2 days and it worked perfectly fine. The only thing i did is to strap 2 old pc fans to the hot parts and thats it.
