crazedguy - 25-11-2010 at 21:07

well i want to start making these fruit esters http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/ethylacetate/smells.htm for fun and what have you
but i can find the acid just not the other reactant like pentanol for pears and Isobutanol for the raspberry ester

so if you know a source please lmk because i have checked google, ebay, and the chemicals list on this forum.
maybe im just missing something?

The carboxylic acid for pentyl acetate is acetic acid, the carboxylic acid for methylpropyl formate is formic acid.

He's in need of the alcohols not the acid. Im in the same boat, i'd like to synthesize some of the same esters however i can't find the alcohol. If i find a cheap source i'll U2U you and i hope you the same.

There are a few good sites on the net but I'm sure many would be apprehensive about just posting them here. All I'll say is look for a website that acts as an intermediate between you and the big suppliers ie. Acros, Alfa, Spectrum. They are out there.
Also try chemsavers they have many alcohols but their prices are quite high, and sell usually in amounts of 250ml-1L.

A few interesting alcohols are available from the supplier mentioned in this thread. And many other suppliers have been mentioned in similar threads.
