Rename "Legal and Societal Issues" to accomodate chemistry related news?

fusso - 2-6-2019 at 05:10

Recently there are some posts about chemistry related news, and all are put in Misc section, but I think we should have another dedicated section for them. Legal and Societal Issues seems like a good place for them as these news are also relating chemistry to the outside world, similar to the section's objective, but as the name suggests, it's only for things related to regulations or human relationships, so the section may need to be renamed to fit chemistry news?

L&S is aptly named.
If you think a thread needs moving, message a mod.

@j do you not see my point?

J-sum1's is right.

Legal and societal issues might not be the most posted on thread around here, but it is tremendously important that we have a thread dedicated to those issues and those alone.

They're just too important to not have their own clearly named and delineated spot on this forum.

Diluting that thread with interesting titbits about chemistry in the news sounds like a bad Idea to me.

Hell, there's already the Wimsey section, which I assume is dedicated to fans of Dorothy L. Sayers mystery novels.
Why do we even have that?

What about a completely new section for chemistry news?

No, I see no reason to have a dedicated section for that. Most of the news is about some fool doing irresponsible things with chemicals, abuse of chemicals (e.g. acid attacks), raids of drug-labs or certain suppliers and sometimes a new scientific discovery. We have miscellaneous and we have whimsy. Only if there is a direct connection with legal issues you should post the news in the societal and legal issues subforum.
