Thermometer and steam bath

What's the white thing in thermometer neck? Just asking over before buying it from auction site. Never seen this kind of thermometer before, I mean with the white thing included.

I also need some advice how to build a steam bath. Is there a thread on this subject or can somebody give me some advice how to build it from scratch or from other commonly found item. What are the best ways to approach this?

The white bit is just a spacer. That type of thermometer has a thin tube running inside a bigger tube. The spacer stops it rattling about and getting broken.
BTW, you might want to check what size it is.

Looks like a wad of tape...

I dont think a 10-70C thermometer will be of much use either. I seriously recommend getting one that reads to 200+. Its more versatile and wont burst if your temp goes up past 100
