Hydroxyacetone from degredation of sugars

Housane - 21-1-2020 at 14:03

Is it possible to produce Hydroxyacetone by degrading sugar as the Wikipedia article on it suggests. Any help in how to do this would be greatly appreciated as I want to try Hydroxyacetone as a reducing agent for Indigo.

Thanks

Here, I hope it is helpful: https://sci-hub.se/10.1533/9781845698447.2.65

It says
Quote:
There is no doubt that many sugars, including glucose and xylose, are converted at least in part into acetol on treatment in boilin aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate.

This quote leads to another paper, reference 5, which I couldn't find right now with a quick search.
Please post it here if you are able to fetch it, I would also be interested in it.
