With the ammo shortage being in full swing again, I like many others have turned again to loading my own ammo (as I have for many years); however,
there is an issue right now. Primers. Primers typically go for about 3 cents a piece, but right now they are 10-15x that (assuming you can find any at
all). The typical primer mixture is some brand-name blend of lead-styphnate, barium nitrate, and ground glass (for increased friction).
Lead-styphnate appears to me to be rather costly to manufacture when compared to many other HE's due to the need to start with Resorcinol for the
styphnic acid synth. (the styphnic acid then being used to make lead-styphnate).
Are there other HE's that one could safely use in its place to get a similar performance to lead-styphnate? (Similar performance in terms of
sensitivity and det. characteristics, preferably without being corrosive like the old mercury fulminate based primers)

DDNP is currently used in non-toxic primers.

DBX perhaps. Start with the safest mixture and then try to make it sensitive rather than the other way.

Pyro_cat: Remington tried introduce electronic firing with the EtronX series of rifles/electric primers... It didn't really take off, at all.
I've seen some folks online disassemble and scavenge primer compound and powder from Hilti or Ramset rimfire blanks in the recent past to "reload"
primers and cartridges, but there is sweet fuck all information about the correct loadings to use for such, and its likely not cost effective at all.
As lavenatti said, DDNP might be what you are looking for, US5831208A is the patent you should start looking at.

Hey Buddy,
The link you provided is going to be unusable for most people on this board.
It requires well mixed 3 micron tetracene or other secondary with 3 micro aluminum powder.
While I know where to buy 3 micron aluminum powder, making or getting 3 micron powder of a secondary is going to be a very specialty item.
