Does anyone know how to open an old Sartorius L420 balance?

It looks like the pic below. Solid late 1980s German lab scale with mg resolution.

One of the digits has a bad LCD segment. It's a known problem with LCDs. Just need to clean the rubber zebra connector, probably.

But how do you open it up? I have an operating manual but not a service manual. None of the screws allow me to lift up the top to get at the electronics. Big screws on the bottom disengage the internal mechanism from the bottom case, but I hurriedly put those back because the mechanism is quite precise and I don't want to break anything.

Really, I just need to pop the faceplate off to get at the LCD.

This manual discusses removing the faceplate in a similar but later series of Sartorius models on p6, but it doesn't say how.
