Interesting read about a new type of bond found in a new compound

This is quite interesting. Recently, the anionic species NaBH3(-) was synthesized and a computational model is made of the bonds in this ionic species. It appears to be a new type of bond, not known before:

This kind of fundamental research is very interesting. Who knows what new kind of compounds come from this. The NaBH3(-) ion is just a weird lab curiosity, but I believe that in the future this may lead to development of new interesting compounds with practical applications.

Nice! When you don't expect that anything in so fundamental part of chemistry will be discovered and it happens...

That is really interesting, I how they will test such an idea? If this is a unique type of bond then there should be some unique actions in it's reactivity, right?

That's just really, really strange.

I don't expect much new and interesting reactivity from it, because it's likely to be too reactive to do anything that sodium or borohydride wouldn't do on their own, but they said something similar about nickel tetracarbonyl.
