Ninja smoke/flash

Belowzero - 17-5-2021 at 05:28

A classic trick in movies is throwing a vial on the ground which causes a near instant cloud of smoke (and flash) after which the 'ninja' swiftly disappears.

I've been wondering what sort of mixtures or compounds would produce such an effect.

It would have to be non-toxic (or minimal), very fast and relatively safe to carry yet impact sensitive.

Is anyone familliar with mixtures that would do this or ideas for what would work?

https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Ninja-Impact-Smoke-Bomb but probably won't work!

White Phosphorus with kicker charge makes smoke dispersion with "ninja"-speed. I would not recommend being physically present in a willy Pete cloud however.

Exotic from YouTube has a decent video on it. I never did what he did since impact smoke bombs aren't something I'm interested in.

There's a YouTube channel called ninja chemist that has done a few videos on impact smoke bombs and the like. Mostly with granulated rocket candy, but there was another one using an organic peroxide, can't remember which one, but if it's ignited without an open flame it creates a cloud of irritating smoke.

I used to have a Paladin Press book that detailed their production. Just a bunch of caps glued to a steel ball bearing with a tube of flash paper around it with flash powder poured into each end then folded up. I bought everything from a magic shop once upon a time, the worked okay.

Firefox sells special effects powder just like you are looking for but I'm not sure they're even in business anymore - I sent them an email some time ago and never got an answer.
