It is a simple reaction but I have never seen it demonstrated on YouTube.
The resulting acid chlorides can be used to make esters with tertiary alcohols.

Hi Cou, well done and thank you for creating and sharing your nice video.
SOCl2 is very useful but also nasty compound. Did you perform distillation and reaction in fume hood or outside? Did you catch the gases or you just released them into air (e.g. if working outside)? Luckily the difference of b.p. between unreacted SOCl2 (which of course must be added with small excess) and butyryl chloride are enough for the distillation you performed and you did well that you increased the efficiency of distillation using column.
