I recently spilled some grignard reaction on my rug.
The rug did not degrade and I wiped everything up with a rag.
Everything is fine except there is a lingering smell in the room.
I cannot pull this rug up easily so I'm wondering I'd there is something I could spray that would destroy the molecules with destroying the rug to get
rid of the smell.
Bleach is out of the question but I'm wondering if there is a detergent that is recommended like oxiclean.
This would also help me with destroying potentially hazardous or carcinogenic organic molecules in case there is a spill.

Ozone is the somewhat infamous king of deodorizers; it will slowly damage any fabrics/rubber, but it works on almost anything, and as long as you
aren't using it too often, it should be fine. Just don't inhale any.

apply a small amount of oxiclean to a small spot in an inconspicuous place, in a closet corner for example.
If it doesn't cause the carpet to fade then you can use that.
dilute vinegar will decompose the grignard and should be relatively safe.
depending on what you were doing that may make it smell worse.
the next step would be to treat with baking soda.
oxiclean will oxidize whatever it is to an acid and then neutralize it.
borax is also pretty good at eliminating odors for a variety of reasons including being a mild oxidant in water.
