Hello Dear forum members.
Where can I buy syringes with needles that won't dissolve in HNO3 or AR?
For past few years, I've been eating a lot of sushi.
Every pack I ate had a plastic fish with soy souse in it.
I saved them all, have almost 50 of them now and washed them, they are clean now and ready for the acid to be injected in them.
Then I planning to sell them or trade with dealers for other substances...
Get a scratch stone, scratch jewelry deep into it on a stone and apply a drop from plastic fish that I've sold... If the scratch stays it's 9ct gold
or higher...
What test solution for 14ct contains in it? Anyone knows ??
Nitric won't dissolve it alone even AR won't boiling it for days in it... Romix - 11-9-2022 at 20:10
Atm I have them, but not tried them yet for this purpose.
They are strong, you can easily puncture a tire with one of them without it bending...
Also I think I can get insulin ones with lower capacity from Ebay... would the needle on them dissolve in diluted HNO3?

That's what I'm talking about.

A) why do you need a needle?
Is it not sufficient (and safer) to use a dropper?
Even the super cheap disposable plastic pipettes are suitable.
B) to me, putting nitric acid, AR etc in a food-style container is asking for trouble. j_sum1 - 11-9-2022 at 21:13

This.
And this!j_sum1 - 11-9-2022 at 21:19
Why not actually use plastic pipettes for your purpose?
Draw up the amount needed.
Seal the end with a heated pair of pliers
Test the seal
Label
Distribute as needed
Snip off the end before use.
Sounds to me like you need only a quarter mL or so for your purpose. I would go with the smaller droppers.
Another thing to consider: AR does not last forever. In most cases it is mixed as needed just prior to use. I would be really hesitant about trying
to store it for any length of time. (Time measured in hours not weeks.)Romix - 12-9-2022 at 01:41
I need a needle because neck of the fish where lid screws on to is too tight.j_sum1 - 12-9-2022 at 02:26
So, don't use the fish.
You will feel awful if someone mistakes your food container for, you know, food. Just not good practice.unionised - 12-9-2022 at 02:59
If you wish to persist with your ill-advised endeavour, you can get teflon needles.
In the right circumstances, nitric acid passivates stainless steel.
But, seriously, find a less dangerous container.Romix - 12-9-2022 at 03:01
Looking on the bright side, I doubt Aldrich will sell directly to him.Bedlasky - 12-9-2022 at 07:55
I use medical syringes with classical stainless steel needle for adding samples of HNO3 in my job. Never had any issues at all. Needles are used
repeatedly, no sign of corrosion even after long time.j_sum1 - 12-9-2022 at 14:27
Pasteur pipettes?
Really, I am seeing lots of simple solutions to the problem posed.
But the actual bigger problem is the whole idea of using soy sauce containers for oxidising acids. And then distributing these. That is really
foolish.clearly_not_atara - 12-9-2022 at 18:45
I'm pretty sure you could fill the fish without needles but ethical considerations prohibit me from explaining it.Romix - 12-9-2022 at 18:49
Yes maybe I could by squeezing the fish in the beaker full of acid and sucking some in. But it won't be full, not even half. Sulaiman - 12-9-2022 at 19:03
Try filling the fish with coloured water then close them with their caps,
press, drop, squeeze the fish to see if they deserve your trust.
You could use thin ptfe tubing to help with dispensing as the fish already have a hole.
(or you can make holes)
I do wish that you could find a different use for the fish,
polyethylene disposable pipettes seal very well over a wide temperature range.
(I have c1ml Hg in one at the moment)Herr Haber - 13-9-2022 at 08:21
I too saved some of those soy sauce bottles before quitting.
The reason is that no matter how clean you think you can get them they will never be as clean as if they were new so that simply bars them from using
them with anything. I never would have considered putting HNO3 in them because they are LDPE anyway.
But I had the same problem to solve and got some glass syringes from Deschem. They do have a nozzle and of course, it's smaller for smaller volumes.
If your acid is not too strong disposable pipettes are probably the cheapest option.
As for the container, if you are intent on using these specific containers why not find your sushi bar supplier ? You may find other interesting
things such as steel containers for electrolysis, disposable al molds and containers of all sorts are great for weighting or just when you know you'll
be making a sticky mess (thinking pyro here).
There are of course the regular lab suppliers but you're better off searching eBay for 20 or 50ml HDPE containers made in China that are sold either
by the dozen or hundreds.
eBay's really cheaper compared to having to save the containers over months, the time in washing them, the water and probably soap or NaOH I would
have used to clean those bottles.
Edit: just read that brilliant idea from Sulaiman. You just saved me quite a few (expensive!) glass ampoules...

glass syringes, needles of gold, platinium, rhodium... the syringes are easy to find, the needles maybe in old medical antiques you can find something
