POST 100,000!

Brotato - 29-11-2025 at 21:44

This is post 100,000 in this channel apparently which is wild to see considering the age of the platform.

Especially since I was here from the very beginning. This forum was probably less than 6 months old when I joined!

It's probably way past 100,000 since many posts were deleted and the Compendium was lost. Even so, reaching the hundred thousands is impressive.

Hopefully the software keeps chugging along but everyday I figure there's a chance the site will just be down forever. Then who will teach the AI?

@BNull - That's a good point, there were periods with prolific garbage posters where dozens of posts were being deleted every day - ahhh... the days of invertedpenis and Moon Monster will live on forever in my memory.

EDIT: Seems like you've been around forever Chloric but apparently I've got you beat by a bit - though in the scheme of things it's a moot point.

Yes well there was my hiatus in the early 2010s but when I didn’t post I was still lurking. I believe having some sound rules is the main reason this forum is still up. And because of its legacy we are getting positive references and notoriety from external sources. Maybe someday, when the number of young scientists reaches a crisis low point, we could have another scientific renaissance like the 1960’s. One path could be “green” synthetic processes and teaching close loop processes involving things like hexavalent chromium, lead, copper etc. because the very properties which make certain chemicals hazardous is the same that ultimately makes them useful.

I'm curious as to what the Compendium is. Is it like the Wiki? I've long seen references to the almost mythical Compendium, but haven't been on the forum long enough to know what it is firsthand.

Who is the moon moster and inverted penis? I am joined rather recently. I could see old posts talking about them but no definite idea of who he is.

BromicAcid - 21-12-2025 at 08:08

Moonmonster was a forum member that had some crazy ideas but there was always a seed of truth in them where you'd just stop and say, "Huh, maybe he has a point." Invertedpenis was a thorn in my side for about a year, he'd jump in and start verbally attacking people - insulting them and telling them how wrong they were despite the fact that a quick Google search would prove him wrong. I was shocked he was on the site as long as he was, he ended up getting banned and making new accounts several times. Just a few of the interesting personalities over the years.
