Just in case any members here decide that nuclear chemistry needs a little push from the amateur hobbyist, here's a little something to consider.
Although I'm a little curious as to what experiment he was running when there was a "minor meltdown on his stove".

Hype. No way did he have enough enriched material along with proper moderation to achieve critical, needed for a meltdown. Especially when they
detected little radiation and he is not burned. It is all more crap to scare the public out of ever trusting one of us.

If he had a meltdown on the stove it was while making dinner.

If a person wanted to commit suicide very slowly they could snort the contents
of some smoke detectors or perhaps fashion an X-ray tube and irradiate themselves.
However I cannot see any way that something like this could be a hazard to the public.

If a man wants to split atoms in his kitchen then they should damn well let him try and split as many as he wants, they're his atoms, let him do what
he wants with them. I wonder if when they caught him he was hacking away at a chunk of uranium with a machete on his wife's good chopping board?
