Froogle!

I've used <A HREF="froogle.google.com">Froogle</A> in the past to try to find chemical suppliers. The last time was a while ago, though. Today, I got surprisingly good results when I tried the search terms "borohydride," "glacial acetic acid," and "sodium bromide." Even better than locating specific sources for materials, Froogle helped me to find online chemical retailers that I wasn't previously aware of. Give it a try, before the system is gamed and becomes worthless.

I've also had good luck with froogle. Not only has searching it brought up numerous chemical suppliers that I would not have found otherwise it is also a good source of supplies, you can find glass tubing and pipets and rock bottom prices. Even hits for obscure chemicals such as chlorotrimethylsilane and such can be found plus it easily compares prices.

Oh, and amazon.com lets you search within a large number of books now. I think you might need to be a registered member but I can type in something like B-trichloroborazine and get results where I can look at the pages from the books that mention the compound. Seeing as how a chemist might only need to see a page or even just a sentence or number from a book this is an incredibly powerful tool in some instances.

Wouldn't just plain AgNO3 + Al be more energetic? And you could save a few steps with that reaction too.

You're right. That link has timed out. Even though it was from a dynamic page, I was hoping that it would remain usable for others. The point of that link is that Gallade Chemical, which I found from Froogle, sells technical grade NaNO2 in a 50 pound sack for less than $1.00 per pound.

Has anyone given gallade a shot before? They have some pretty amazing prices. 3,000 pounds of 68% nitric acid for $600. I found them a few weeks ago on Froogle while I was looking for the chemicals for Super Black. I was trying to figure out whether or not you needed a company. I figured I'd try one of the cheaper things that wasn't too conspicuous. Calcium Oxide would be my choice probably. 60 pounds for $21(It's under quick lime, must be 2 words).
