Drying out CaCl2

Fusionfire - 28-1-2012 at 20:52

Hi guys,

I tried to search the forum for "Reuse/regenerate calcium chloride" and just "calcium chloride" but didn't find anything on the conditions to end with completely dry calcium chloride from completely hydrated calcium chloride.

I understand that the heat of solution of anhydrous CaCl2 to infinite dilution is -176.2 cal/g (see attached datasheet I found). So at least this energy must be spent to convert diluted CaCl2 to dry CaCl2 + steam.

What I don't know is the temperatures involved to guarantee desiccation. Would it just be the BP of the monohydrate (187C) or something else?

Thanks.
