Gadolinium question

LanthanumK - 10-5-2012 at 13:34

I recently purchased some gadolinium from GalliumSource and placed it in acetic acid to dissolve. A bright yellow solution was obtained. The same happens when an excess of gadolinium reacts with hydrochloric acid (an excess of hydrochloric acid only makes a colorless solution). I thought gadolinium was colorless in everything but the iodide. Are there any colored gadolinium complexes?
