Chlorination of organic compounds by electrolysis

Ninja - 9-6-2012 at 03:29

Hi!

Since it's possible to make Chloroform by electrolysis of a suitable chloride with another suitable alcohol or ketone i wonder if i can chlorinate acetic acid for example by the same method. Will it become mixture of mono-, di- and trichloroacetic acid or will it only oxidize to mainly CO2 and Chloroform?

Thanks for any helping thought on this matter.
