Lab setup question?

Farmerjohn - 14-6-2012 at 18:50

Hey sorry if this has ben covered before, but I have a pretty decent organic chem setup but I was wondering what kind of pump should I use for my condensers not sure what the flow rate is needed?

Also what should I look for to operate in vacuum pump wise ? and what is the best joint grease to use as well as where to order it?

all my stuff is 24/40 and my primary interest are in all things plants

You can get the grease you need in the plumbing section of a harware store or at a automotive parts place "silicone dielectric grease" they are the cheapest sources. Use a water pump from a garden fountain, you can pick one up at a hardware store for 20$ - 30$. I got mine at the pick and shovel harware store in Vermont and it works great. i stick it a 5 gallon pail that used to contain drywall mud.

thanks.. any particular GPM rate on the pump i would think if its too much flow it would break the glass?

Get an adjustable flow rate one, they have a rotatable base valve and the wide to narrow spout has two screws in it, just screw them in or out to fine tune it.
If your condensers dont have screw on fittings, get those small tube crimps or double wind and twist on some copper wire. just remember you can allways test it and tighten up any leeks, but you have to buy a new one if you over tighten/twist the wire.
I would recomend the crimps/tube clamps. from experiance MM
