phosphorus pentoxide and phosphorus red

haroldramis - 9-7-2012 at 21:37

There is a UK based ebay supplier selling phosphorus pentoxide on ebay. Golden labs. On their ad they say the also have red phosphorus and to contact them if interested in purchasing. Has anyone here dealt with them? Anyone with a horror or success story about importing small amounts of Phosphorus?

Where is Golden Labs based? In the UK?

More to the point, where do you live?

If you are in the US, I would be careful. I wish I had more experience than this, but, frankly, I am too paranoid to try it myself.

I am in the US. I wasn't really searching to buy phosphorus as much as I am just curious about how often stuff like this is enforced. I see list 1 chems on ebay all the time, but I rarely hear about people being arrested or visited for purchasing them.

Have you heard about GoldenLabs Hexavalent? Im guessing you are in the UK too from your profile.

Then, I dont see Phosphorus compounds available too often so I may jump on it just to expand my element collection.

Have you seen the shipping costs of the materials? These are absurd and outrageous. For the P4O10 the shipping cost is well over GBP 40 for only 250 grams of solid, using standard international parcel service. He also sells KMnO4 and the shipping of this is even around GBP 100!

Other sellers in the UK charge somewhere around GBP 4 for such a weight and appr. GBP 9 for 1 kg. Even ADR-shipping is not that expensive. A seller like Mistral uses ADR-shipping to NL and charges GBP 13 for a shipment of a few hundreds of grams, which is still way below what this seller charges.

I didnt bother looking to be honest woelen, seeing as I'm sitting on a decent amount of each ;)

Please don't import red P into the US. They will come after the seller and throw them in jail, its happened before. The fact that someone doesn't live in the US doesn't seem to matter anymore
