Selling my glassware, hot plates and PTFE vacuum pump

TheLogos - 18-8-2012 at 04:22

I want to post this up to see if there is a demand before going through taking pictures and classifying everything, there's quite a bit of stuff.

Please just leave a post if you are interested.

All of it is 24/40, chemglass, ace, pyrex, konte, no cheap chinese glass.

Everything is at home right now but to list a few things off my head

pc-320 hotplate

Scilogex analog hotplate stirrer

KNF Laboport UN840 FTP ptfe diaphragm Manuf date 5/2006
the teflon hose on the exit port missing

maybe around 6-8 condensers, liebig, friedrichs, coil, graham, and one vigreux column.

a lot of erlenmeyers, grounded and non
a few beakers
a couple of really big erlenmeyer and vacuum flask 2-4L

Some rbf 1-3L in size, single neck and triple neck

maybe 2 100ml graduated cylinder, 1 2L and 1 4L.

Lots of fritted funnels, small to medium. Sorry, I don't remember the exact size. One huge fritted funnel with ground joint, maybe around 500ml

separatory funnel 125ml, 250ml, 1L all teflon stopcock

A lot of claisen adapters

1 100ml buret

A lot of 250ml addition funnel with equalizing valve, ptfe stopcock

Hg thermometer with ground glass joint

a lot of various misc. 24/40 adapter, vacuum port with teflon stopcock, stirring bar, spatula, etc.

I can't remember everything off the top of my head, there's definitely more. Most of it is in good to like new condition.

The worst is some chip here and there on a few pieces that I will point out, iron stain on one of the condenser, some small scratches on a few pieces.

I'm traveling a lot, so this stuff needs to go. My parents are getting pissed off because half the garage is filled with all this.

I'm also getting kind of paranoid too because I'm usually not around to watch after it and non-chemistry people think any kind of chemistry glassware=meth lab. Always gotta be constantly worried about any repairman coming by :(

I'll be home by the end of the month and that's when I'll take the pictures if there is enough demand.

I have no experience selling/shipping glassware, so I don't know if I should set a minimum amount to order or I just might lose a lot of money on shipping.

Either way, this shit has to go. Someone buy it all please.

Antimony Pentafluoride - 20-8-2012 at 17:58

Ooooo shiny. Could you put up some prices? I'd be interested in... most of that lol. Too bad I'm a student and thus a broke-*** b****.

How much for the 1 liter sep funnel? 2L vacuum flask? Triple neck 3 L RBF?

Pyro - 20-8-2012 at 18:04

how much do you want for the thermometer?

trip96 - 20-8-2012 at 18:17

How much for your cheapest hot plate stirrer?
Also the vigreux column?
And finally, the large fitted funnel with ground joint and a vacuum flask to go with it?

Funkerman23 - 20-8-2012 at 19:06

Any chance of a pic of what adapters you have? And any clamps/bossheads/ ring stands?

TheLogos - 21-8-2012 at 15:10

Funkerman23- I think I do have all that.

To everyone inquiring on the prices and pictures,

give me a little bit of time to get all of this posted, classes are just starting and I'm swamped with classwork.

If I can't get pictures and prices up this weekend, then the latest would be the end of this month.

MyNameIsUnnecessarilyLong - 21-8-2012 at 23:01

is that a single or dual head pump?

TheLogos - 22-8-2012 at 02:41

It's single, I think.

Hexavalent - 22-8-2012 at 04:21

Where do you live, TheLogos?

TheLogos - 22-8-2012 at 14:08

I'm located in NC, US. I will try going back home this saturday if I can. Quantitative Analysis is already flooding me with tons of labwork lol.

Salome - 22-8-2012 at 23:58

I'd be rather interested as well. Do post prices when you get a chance.

Bohr-on - 23-8-2012 at 16:27

Would you be willing to ship Ottawa Canada?

polymerizer87 - 23-8-2012 at 17:15

I sent you a u2u about the pump, how much are you asking?

TheLogos - 24-8-2012 at 12:52

Incoming image dump. This will take a while because there is a lot of stuff. I have to sort through, check for any flaws and decide on the pricing.

Please give me a day. A lot of stuff I have no idea how to name, so point a link to that picture or circle it in mspaint.

Once I respond to your u2u, you have a 24 hours to send payment through paypal before I move on to the next person if the item is in high demand. If nobody wants a certain item then take your time.

Price will include shipping cost. I can only ship once per week because these items are still at home.

Previous u2u doesn't count. Everything starts when I finish post pics.

/peace

That photo makes me want to see an essential oil distillation kit sold packaged in a guitar case.

Aperturescience27 - 25-8-2012 at 06:09

I'm also interested. Very interested...

TheLogos - 25-8-2012 at 18:08

Another note,

Anyone who buys and pick all this up in person, I will extend a huge discount and throw in both the cases for free (almost $500, pelican 1750 and 1650)

Coming up with a fair pricing for each item will take a while.

Shipping and handling glasswares is extremely daunting when working with this huge amount and with classes in junior year squeezing the life out of me.

TheLogos - 31-8-2012 at 13:55

All prices include shipping. If you buy more than one item, I will refund back the difference after shipping.
Prices might seem a bit high but packing material, cardboard box and shipping cost a lot of money. I will attempt to give a discount to those who buy more.

Keep in mind. This is the worst case scenario price where I have to ship out everything individually.

So if you buy in any amount. I will work with you on the final price.

I live in NC, so if you buy the whole thing and pick up in person. I will discount it SUBSTANTIALLY and name my first child after you :D

Fossil - 1-9-2012 at 17:34

Honestly, I do not think this the place to try and sell your used gear for profit as there are others on there with much more competitive prices like edgecase and Dr bob to name a few. They also have the advantage of being well vouched for. Regardless, best of luck to you in selling your lab gear.

TheLogos - 1-9-2012 at 18:16

I'm not trying to sell it for a profit at all. The problem is shipping, packing materials and self insurance. I can sell an erlenmeyer for $3 but I'll just end up paying people to take it off my hands. It cost more to ship than the actual cost of
the item.
I even spoke with Dr.Bob in person once and he told me about the whole pain with shipping glassware. The real price is lower but I can't be sure what it is until it has been shipped. I will refund back part of the money if the cost of shipping and packing end up being lower, which is certainly the case if you buy more than one item.

In the case that an item breaks during shipping, I would have no choice but to refund the buyer.

Which means I'll be eating ramen for a week. Insurance is useless unless you let them pack the item. Buyers will also neglect to report damage when first receiving the shipment and insurance will be denied.

If someone were to buy and pick it up in person, I would gladly take half off everything.
I'm just trying to cover my ass because shipping and packing material cost is coming from my student loans and credit card.

Fossil - 1-9-2012 at 18:54

I see. You might want to consider listing the prices of the items without the shipping cost included, and calculate shipping once the buyer has decided which items they want to buy. You will certainly get alot more responses this way as the cost seems lower. Some of your prices really are quite ludicrous though, 15$ for a little funnel!? or 10$ per stirring rod! although that might just be the aforementioned shipping coming into play. To pick on the stir rod, 10$ really is quite a sum unless shipping costs 9.50$. Maybe even consider posting 2 prices, one with shipping and one without.

TheLogos - 1-9-2012 at 19:24

If people see something of interest. Just shoot me a message and an offer. In general I tack $10-$15 on everything to compensate for shipping. Shipping gets a lot cheaper the more you buy.

It took me a whole day to come up with a price for everything and a lot of it was done with a toss of a coin.

Some of the stuff are in like new condition. Take the buret and 250ml sep funnel for example, when I bought it, it was still in the packaging. I took a lot of pain photographing every chip on every item, but the uploading file size is limited.

Fossil - 1-9-2012 at 19:28

And dude, come on, seriously. If you're looking to make a buck (tuition fees maybe) don't say the opposite since it dosen't do too good for your credibility as a seller.

By the way, don't take this as an attack on you, I just found it curious.

Magic Muzzlet - 1-9-2012 at 19:37

I can't believe you thought you could get away with selling that pump haha

You posted on this very forum, did you forget or something??

How much else was bought on eBay cheaply and you are now reselling?

TheLogos - 1-9-2012 at 19:39

I checked the prices on ebay before coming up with a price for the item. If I got the vacuum pump for $1, it doesnt mean I will resell it for $1.

I dont know how much credibility you need as a seller since we're going through paypal. I'm more worried about myself as a seller, there's really nothing to keep the buyer from saying the item arrived broken and getting money back through paypal.

There's also too many stuff that I had no idea what I originally paid for.

Folks if your not going to buy anything quit harassing him. He did us the favor of posting good photos, up front prices and is even willing to negotiate. Leave him be! As for me as soon as I get my refund I'm eying a few pieces.

Hexavalent - 2-9-2012 at 11:57

The things you 'don't know what they are' are cold finger condensers and a gas adapter.

Hey, sorry but I just packed it up for someone else. It's going to get shipped out tomorrow.

Edit: I thought about lowering the price a little bit on everything, but after shipping the first order today. I know it's not going to happen.

They wanted $30 just to ship the buret and cold trap, which only cost $50.
It's like a tetris problem. The buret is too long, the cold trap is just wide enough that it won't fit in the tube.

Glass is relatively lightweight and UPS charge mostly by the size of the box.

That's why I kept saying, if you buy a lot, the shipping gets dramatically cheaper. There's almost no point for me to sell just one item, especially when the majority of the people interested in buying are from areas like New York and Texas.

BTW, I feel really bad that you guys think I'm some kind of scammer rip off artist. I know this is the internet and everything, but please just don't be so mean.

I'm almost reconsidering selling this stuff at all. The shipping and paypal fee cost so much that I'm losing money when people buy individual items. I might as well keep the damn thing and save my self the hassle ;(
