Sciencemadness Discussion Board

Sorry for the downtime

Polverone - 20-9-2012 at 04:18

I was travelling and didn't check the site for a few days. There was some sort of low-level problem: virtual machine CPU use went to 100% and the machine was not responsive to any network requests. It seems to be fine after a reboot.

bbartlog - 20-9-2012 at 04:21

Glad it was nothing serious. Thought maybe someone had decided to DDOS the site or something.

Rogeryermaw - 20-9-2012 at 04:22

oh thank science! who cares...i was just worried that something may have happened to you! we could live without the board if it had to be down but that you are well and healthy is far more important. glad to see it back up and running though.

Doc B - 20-9-2012 at 04:23

Pfewww welcome back!

kuro96inlaila - 20-9-2012 at 05:28

Glad to have SM again :D.
I feel like my world had suddenly became so silent.:o

Only when we are deprived of our daily visit do we realize how much of a debt we all owe to Polverone. Thank you again, sir, for your efforts.

Regards, Der Alte

Thank you! Was scared my science education was coming to a slow down. Good to see its back up and running!

hyfalcon - 20-9-2012 at 06:21

I was going through ScienceMadness withdrawal symptoms. Glad everything is back!

I agree. Quite a relief. :D

Yes, thank science Polverone is well and this trauma was just a freak occurence!

Maybe this downtime was fortuitous as it reminded me, and many others, how important this site is. Therefore I want to ask Polverone about costs. Do you need some financial help in supporting this forum?

hkparker - 20-9-2012 at 10:26

Glad were all back! I was hoping that torrent you made wouldn't be necessary. (though it is very cool!)

Vargouille - 20-9-2012 at 10:26

Whew. That was concerning.

Glad you're back.

hiperion42 - 20-9-2012 at 10:44

Y'all a bunch of addicts.

woelen - 20-9-2012 at 10:44

Polverone, thanks for all your efforts. I really am glad sciencemadness is online again!

99chemicals - 20-9-2012 at 10:51

Yeeeaaah. I have been checking constantly for the last 2 days. Now I know it is nothing serious.

Thanks Polverone.

Sorry for the double post, but I quoted the wrong one.

when did you all have trouble??? I been able to look things up freely every night when I got off work. though saturday I was at a wedding. but prior all through till 2pm sat(wedding) and then back mid-day say 3ish sunday I was reading.

well glad I didn't even notice. and stuff is up cause I would have freaked out also. usually I read till 1 or 2am n get up ~7 to hang drywall. only gone for 9-10 hrs a day, LOTS of my time is reading here. sooo much to learn

suppose I could have left 3 or so long threads open and still been reading what was loaded before it went down..

triplepoint - 22-10-2012 at 20:16

perhaps a thread like this should be locked after a reasonable time in order to prevent people from mistakenly thinking it is current and reviving it.

Polverone - 28-11-2012 at 16:21

We had a two-for-one special on forum interruptions! The database needed repair and the SSL certificate had expired. Now the DB is fixed, new SSL certificate generated. You will need to confirm a security exception again if you use the HTTPS version of the site.

Eliteforum - 29-11-2012 at 02:23

I thought it was just the Wifi I was using yesterday when I kept getting 500 errors. Glad to know that it's all sorted.

chemrox - 30-11-2012 at 00:40

its a relief to hear it wasn't a bug I picked up

Indeed.

chemrox - 1-12-2012 at 07:22

The u2u service is still buggy. Instead of opening a u2u it pulls up the annoying "would you like to view it now" screen, Clicking ok pulls up another of the same.
