I don't know how to evaluate this. It could very well be counter-intelligence to discredit the gentleman that brought us wiki-leaks. I deeply appreciate wiki-leaks. Does anyone have more knowledge? Care to weigh in?

Because Press TV, is headquartered in Tehran its credibility is, at best, questionable?
And I mean "Assange working for Mossad" ─ that's just ludicrous!

As hissingnoise did, you click on the "Press TV" link and see the following blurb:
Quote:

Press TV is a 24-hour English language global news network owned by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). Its headquarters are located in Tehran, Iran.
And then you look on Wikipedia for IRIB and see that it's a creature of the state:
Quote:

The constitution further specifies that the director of the organization is chosen directly by the Supreme Leader for five years, and the head of the judiciary branch, the president, the Islamic Consultative Assembly oversee the organization.

A friend of mine tends to get the bulk of his news from Al Jazeera and Press TV!
He's top-heavy with conspiracy theories . . .

Thanks for clearing this up and revealing Press TV. It leaves me with one question: cui bono? How would Tehran profit from discrediting Assange?

hissingnoise - 25-1-2013 at 12:35

It may be just a transparent attempt drive a wedge between Netanyahu and Obama?

That story is about Bradley Manning who provided information to wikileaks
and rants on about American government oppression. My question is what
does any of this editorial to do with Assange ? What was your question anyway ?

I see you and raise

The Obama administration is sending the message to would-be whistleblowers; if you cross the US government by informing the public of our unethical, illegal and unconstitutional activities, we'll pursue you to the ends of the earth with a view to incarcerating you and subjecting you to inhuman and degrading treatment!!!

Although I'm not Polverone, and cannot say for certain what he had in mind when he created the Legal and Societal Issues sub-forum, I'm fairly confident that this thread does not fit into that vision. This has nothing at all to do with amateur science, and will only lead to another pointless political flamewar, especially with comments like this insightful gem:

There used to be a somewhat steady flow of topics that actually related to the pursuit of amateur chemistry. Lately, it's been hijacked by a tiresome parade of pages upon pages of conspiracy theory-esque links, disjointed ramblings, quotes and videos that have no particular association with amateur chemistry whatsoever.

The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home.
— James Madison

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.
— William Pitt

A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.
— Edward R. Murrow

I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America , and we must see
to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the
law and under proper supervision , so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the
abyss from which there is no return.
― Senator Frank Church , 1975

To be resourceful , self reliant , self sufficient , makes one independent and indomitable.
This is an odious anathema to ' progressive ' social engineers , or better put , incrementally
corrupting and subversive of the moral good. The irony is that such miscreants have
substituted their intent to foster the degeneration of civilization as what passes for moral
good. By forcing people to be weakened and become dependent on each other makes them
all pliable , manipulable , and subservient to the hand which feeds and grants comfort and favor.

They who proclaim if you may practice chemisty or not , your wish is their whim.

If ye love wealth better than liberty , the tranquility of servitude better than
the animating contest of freedom , go home from us in peace. We ask not
your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May
your chains set lightly upon you , and may posterity forget that ye were our
countrymen.
— Samuel Adams
