I ask again here as I got no answer in this thread: http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=23049&...

Is anyone still having issues with downloading? Be it the fact it's timing out, corrupt downloads etc?

If so can you please inform me of the issues you're having so I can get on to the webhosting company and tell them the issues we're having.

TIA.

I only have the problem when using Firefox... IE works fine. That's probably not much help but, just sayin'

I occasionally had issues with Firefox. I've switched to Chrome and I find it a little quicker than ff.

Cheers.

Using XP with IE8, I have not been able to download more than 350kB from any title in the last few weeks.

Bob

Raised another support ticket with them, if they can't find the problem or offer a solution, I'll be trying an alternative hosting provider very shortly.

Eliteforum - 18-2-2013 at 11:27

All the problems should have been resolved now. According to the hosting provider. Please let me know if you have any issues.

I continue having trouble. Many of the files can not be opened because they contain errors or they contain no pages. Changing browsers doesn't help. Vogel's Practical Organic is one example.

Eliteforum - 27-2-2013 at 03:22

I've raised another ticket with the webhost. I'll be looking into a new host if this doesn't get resolved.

Eliteforum - 27-2-2013 at 06:34

I've given them my ultimatum. I've just recently gone over my stats for the hosting, and I'm pretty appalled at how much traffic is getting a 206 error.

They either fix it or I'll find another host.

Well, I've been told by the guy that he has done some tweaks to my cloud, and that's all they can do. As technically I'm in breach of their Terms of Service by using the hosting as a means of sharing media/downloading.

If anyone knows of any cheap (unlimited) webhosting, let me know. Really does need to be unlimited though, as from Jan up to now, you have downloaded (or attempted at least) close to 150GB..

New library home needed

Polverone - 5-3-2013 at 13:19

Eliteforum's current host has kicked out the Sciencemadness library and LANL documents. We need a new host, if anyone can offer. A prospective host should be able to provide:

About 6 GB of disk space.
Up to 200 GB of download traffic per month.
A dedicated IP address.

Please post in this thread or U2U me if you are interested and may be able to help.

Damn, I didn't even notice it was down. And I have been directing new members to go and download COPAE, etc from it fervently. :D

Now that it is not up, I can think of all sorts of useful entries I want to scroll through. :(
I do hope it is back up soon. It is quite a resource, IMO.
Good luck.

Does SM need more donations?

Eliteforum - 6-3-2013 at 03:34

I've just purchased some webhosting that permits "file sharing activity" but limits it to 25GB. Seeing as the library is under 7GB this shouldn't be an issue. I'll update when I have more to add.

Polverone - 29-3-2013 at 19:27

Thanks for the offer, Eliteforum.

But the provider I use to run this site (Linode) has just increased the monthly bandwidth allocation from 200 GB to 2000 GB. Rather, they did it March 7 and I noticed just now. That should be more than enough to handle LANL and the library. Library downloads should now be fast and error-free. You should be able to get to the LANL and library documents again as soon as the DNS changes finish propagating.

I am getting corrupted downloads when I try to use the library. Every book I download will finish fast but when I open it, complete meltdown. Also, I tried Firefox, IE, and Chrome, with several different PDF viewers as well, on my laptop and desktop, different networks too. Is it only me that this is happening to? Been like this for 2 days now.

Polverone - 7-5-2013 at 11:21

I tried a few titles at random without trouble. Can you name a specific file that failed?

Hexavalent - 7-5-2013 at 12:31

I had such issues when trying to download Vogel's and Brauer a few months ago: the files download quickly, but when I try to open them, they crashed my computer and gave me just a white screen. Odd.

Polverone - 8-5-2013 at 00:30

Hexavalent, the problem you experienced stemmed from the web host that was hosting the files a few months ago. If you try to download Brauer or Vogel today you should find the results fast and correct; I just checked and could obtain them with no trouble.

Hexavalent - 8-5-2013 at 12:12

Ah okay, thanks. DJF90 kindly sent me offline copies of the books in the meantime :P
