simple DDT of modefied flash powder ("safe" initiator)

Several years ago I stumbled upon this and it has never failed me.

1. Mix KClO4 70%-flash Al powder 30%
2. Sprinkle .5g flash onto 5g AN prills.
3. Put in a slightly reinforced container
4. Fuse, light, run, bang

It doesn't scale below ~2cm diameter tube, but it always gets the job done.

It's by no means comparable to silver azide, but it does give the sharp crack of DDT.

This Tannerite-like composition looks very interesting.

A long time ago I had tested Ammonal charges for initiation via bullet at 2500FPS (762m/s). At that time I was dusting prilled Ammonium Nitrate with 7% dark pyro (3-micron) Aluminium powder. Results were consistent with incomplete and low-order detonations. Having been told by a reliable source of mine that particle size [EDIT: particle size of the Ammonium Nitrate] is of great importance for initiation of this material, I've always wanted to grind the AN and try it again. I've avoided further testing as I have very strong doubts that Ammonal, of any mesh size, can be fully initiated via a projectile from anything other than a railgun.

underground: Do you have source material for your composition? I am preparing a full barrage of testing for it, including measurement of VoD. Anything you or anyone else can provide would be helpful.

I'm still in search of a simple, safe method to initiate sleepy secondaries WITHOUT the synthesis or use of primaries. Past experiments of mine have used true Exploding Bridge-Wires with pressed ETN, however, I've come to the conclusion that this is too specialized for most. I'm well aware that Tannerite (utilizing NH4CL04) can be made to go boom via both bullet and 70:30 KCLO4/Al flash, however, I've never found testing that shows that it goes high-order, and is capable of reliably initiating insensitive secondaries.
