Elemental Scientific shipping

thesmug - 10-2-2014 at 14:08

I ordered some chemicals from a company that many of you probably know called "Elemental Scientific." They seem good, other than the fact that I ordered them over a week ago and they haven't shipped them yet! In my order status thing it has been stuck on "paid" for the entire time. I know they are having inv. issues, but when do you guys think they will ship my order?

plante1999 - 10-2-2014 at 14:39

Very long, never ordered from them but I eard of month of delay. Compagny usually take 2 weeks before shipping in Canada and probably mostly over the world, but elemental is one of the exceptions.

*FWOOSH* - 10-2-2014 at 14:59

Elemental Scientific will probably take ~1 month to ship. Some of the harder to get stuff can take even longer, I'm still waiting on some DCE that was part of an order about 3 months ago, they sent the rest a while ago though.

Steve_hi - 10-2-2014 at 15:04

I've bought from them at least 8 times and I pick my stuff up in the US so its not a question of out of country shipping The average time has been about 4- 6 weeks.

Zyklon-A - 10-2-2014 at 15:04

Yes, I should have told you, they take a long time to ship but it will come. I have ordered from them a few times and aside from slow shipping, they are the best that I have found.

thebean - 10-2-2014 at 16:33

I have purchased from them before on several occasions. It takes about a month  because they synthesize the stuff with each order. I don't know if they would take a month if I were to just order glassware or something else that doesn't need to be prepared. It will come and the quality is second to none in the US for amateurs. Wish I could order from sigma :P.

The_Davster - 10-2-2014 at 17:12

You will get your stuff with elemental. But who knows when. They have always been like this.

Why does this make any sense to them?

[edit] I called them today, and the guy said: "Oh yes, [my name], that's the order I'm decanting right now"

I didn't understand what he meant by that, but now it makes much more sense.

I have ordered twice, and even though it take 4-6 weeks, I never regret it for a second.

Have you ever ordered from HMS Beagle? I heard that they were good and that they shipped quickly, but I would like to know your (or anybody else's) experience.

TheChemiKid - 10-2-2014 at 18:13

They don't have a great selection, and their glassware is way overpriced. Other than that, they are good.

Well that's good because I have a source of glassware I like much more :D

Zyklon-A - 10-2-2014 at 18:24

I have not ordered anything from HMS Beagle, or even heard about them until now.
Their ground-glass glassware is overpriced but everything else seems like a great price, especially their beakers and erlenmeyer flasks.

GoldGuy - 10-2-2014 at 19:39

Does elemental ship chemicals to Canada?

What do you need to buy from Sigma? I would give my left nut to be able to order from Sigma.

plante1999 - 10-2-2014 at 19:50

You need:

A) Not to be a cook.
B) Not to be a terrorist.
C) Buy limited amount of chemicals used in one or the other of point A and B.
D) Have a company linked to chemical uses.
E) Buy chemicals linked to your company field.

GoldGuy - 10-2-2014 at 20:05

Can someone answer who has bought from Sigma. This guy sure is condescending... because those rules apply to ALL chemical distributers Ive ever deal with...

It may be because I am, at least compared to you.

I can tell you a bit about Sigma.

When you apply, they will email you a questionnaire. They will want information about your business, what you do, what chemicals will you be ordering. I know that if you list a shipping address that UPS or Fedex list as residential they will reject your application. Prices can be a bit high.

@plante1999: What is it with you that you answer in this way? Try not to be a grumpy man who makes himself disliked by other members.

---------------------------------

Forget about ordering from Sigma or any of the other large companies (e.g. Merck, Carl Roth, Acros) when you are not affilliated to some suitable company or registered research institute. They do not want to deal with private individuals, even though law does not forbid them to do so. They just do not want to run the risk of being associated with cooks, k3wls or even terrorists.

Simply ignore. It's just a severe case of cognitive dissonance - self-perception vs. reality.

Elemental Scientific contacting

thesmug - 22-2-2014 at 17:26

Just wanted to share something interesting with you guys. Most of you are familiar with how hard it is to get in contact with Elemental Scientific, yes? A few days back I emailed them to cancel an order and got an automatic response from google (I use gmail). They are so bad at responding to messages that their unread mailbox was too full to even receive my (or any) message! If you ever need to contact them, email is apparently not an option. Don't let this discourage you from trying, though!

elementcollector1 - 22-2-2014 at 17:28

What was the automatic response?
Also, be patient, for Feynman's sake! Elemental Scientific is a family-owned company that has precisely 4 employees (and all of them are family members). They're not fast, but they're reliable.

They actually got taken over by another company with (I think) more employees. I believe the response was error #452

ScienceHideout - 23-2-2014 at 09:30

Call "Galaxy Science and Hobby" in downtown Appleton (Google the number). Ask them if they are affiliated with Elemental Scientific. They will say yes, and then ask them politely, if they can help you with a question that you have.

It works every time for me :D

I did exactly that and they told me to contact the new owners.

ScienceHideout - 23-2-2014 at 14:12

o_O Wow... someone must've bought Elemental! That is crazy!

Pickardjr - 23-2-2014 at 15:33

Elemental scientific are good people, Im on a first name basis with them. I ask that you please not post you're conversations with them. Orders will take , up to 30 days . Please be discreet .

zenosx - 23-2-2014 at 21:50

Yes they are good people. Be patient. You WILL get what you ordered.

Think of it this way. It is good that they have a back-order log or home chemists like us might have now recourse!

Would a mail-forwarding service like earthclassmail.com help here? I believe these are often used so online companies can have business address that is not someone's home address. Of course what fedex or usps lists this as may cause issues.

Do foreign addresses ordering from sigma have the same database for commercial-vs-residential?

Slow but good. Never had any issues other than "we cannot ship that to your country"

dontasker - 24-2-2014 at 17:59

Upon reading that they synth some items I decided to take a snoop around their site some more. It seems their site lists a new address. One in Little Canada, MN. It happens to be where a local chem supply company moved to a few years ago.

BME Lab Supply used to be just off of University Ave, St. Paul (down the road a ways from Ax Man surplus). I purchased a few things there. Great place, but they only seemed to have the glass tubing that I needed after the move.

I may have to try ordering again. If BME and Elemental are now together, I hope I can start to pick up stuff locally again. :D

Elemental Scientific - New Owners

tomholm - 24-2-2014 at 18:36

Hi All. Yes, Elemental Scientific was recently acquired by another company, BME Lab and Science, based in St. Paul, MN. First, I want to second earlier comments on how wonderful and knowledgeable the previous owners are. We, too, were customers of theirs prior to purchasing the company.

BME Lab and Science is also a family-owned business that has was founded over 25 years ago. BME provides a wide range of lab supplies and repair services. Over the past month, BME has been busy moving into a larger, retail space and moving Elemental's inventory from WI to MN. We apologize for any disruption in service this may have caused.

Our move is nearly complete and we are now processing orders much more quickly. Our goal is to maintain a larger inventory of prepared chemicals and process orders within 1-3 days.

We at BME-Elemental Scientific appreciate your patience during this transition and look forward to getting to know you and service your laboratory needs. Call or email just to say, "Hi"!
