solidification of liquid carbolic acid?

chemaniac - 29-11-2004 at 05:59

Few days back, i had a chance to visit a chemicals market. They sell Phenol <carbolic acid> in liquid form.Is there safe way to convert into solid? I m using a process which requires solid phenol.

Liquid phenol - nice...probably quite pure. I bet this 'chemical market' wasn't in the UK, was it? I'd be very happy to find an OTC source of phenol here...

OT - I have no idea how to solidify it. Freezing?? :-)

Well, liquid phenol contains water, doesn't it.
So distillation might be a good one. If this yields polymerisation products etc, I am sure this can be dried in the presence of anhydrous CaCl2, or similar, or even vacuum.
