I don't think there's a thread for this yet... The title says it all! I'll go first: I didn't know you could reply with polls! Let's try it out!

thesmug - 20-4-2014 at 15:00

I guess it just makes a new thread!

HgDinis25 - 20-4-2014 at 15:01

Only now I realized about this function xD

Code:
Kinda started staring at all the options after seeing this thread

thesmug - 20-4-2014 at 15:03

I've never used the code function before! Why are there even options to disable smileys and turn BBCode off?

:mad:cool:)
I wonder what this will do.
)

ok I am typing stuff in white. Tell me If you see. Hey maybe I should write snide and sarcastic things that I don't want to actually say to people like this.

prof_genius - 20-4-2014 at 22:55

I see the white text.

Praxichys - 21-4-2014 at 07:05

Testing

Code:
[font=Lucida Console] [size=99][color=red][b]T[/b][/color] [sup][size=80][color=orange][i]e[/i][/color] [size=60][color=yellow][u]s[/u][/sup][/color] [size=40][color=LimeGreen]t[/color][size=20][color=green]i[/color] [size=10][color=blue][sub]n[/color] [size=5][color=purple][sub]g[/color][/size][/font][/sub][/sub]

Some sub-sub-sub-subscript at size 99:

12345678910

If you can read this, you don't need a microscope. Also, you probably have a monitor with insane resolution.

a) just because, b) so this doesn't happen (or hanging parenthesis like:)

^ Not always the case as you can see, but many forums have "B)" =

You can also do HTML, which seems like <table style="border: solid; border-width:2; padding: 10px"><tr><td>a</td><td>dangerous</td></tr><tr><td>thing</td><td>to do</td></tr></table>

packetforger - 22-4-2014 at 13:55

<script>alert('HTML posting is a bad idea, allows arbritary javascript. Like this. Except someone could do some real bad stuff')</script>

Yeah, someone should really disable HTML posting. It is actually what those of us in the security business term a cross-site-scripting vulnerability (XSS).

All we have to do is quote your post and then we see everything...

Mine as well. Someone has to take this away before I'm tempted to add "Are you sure you want to leave?" confirmation windows to any synthesis threads I start.

...or try to intercept anyone quoting me: "Are you sure you didn't mean 'Report this post'?"

On the other hand this has potential to allow useful functionality. Too bad it's so easily abused.

thesmug - 22-4-2014 at 18:21

The first thing I'm thinking of when it comes to bad JavaScripts would be something that disables mouse and typing or prevents you from leaving the page or closing your browser or ctrl+alt+del and so on that you can't leave. Those are no fun!
Also, someone could make a fake "You have x unread U2Us" popup, linking somewhere bad.

[Edited on 4/23/14 by thesmug]

elementcollector1 - 22-4-2014 at 18:40

thesmug: I can read your sig, and you're only half correct. More on that in some Whimsy thread or other... ;D
Also, at first I thought that HTML popup was an unrelated bug. Cracked up when I read the rest of this thread.

packetforger - 23-4-2014 at 13:20

thesmug - A seriously evil person could use a Javascript "hook" to completely seize control of your browser. One such tool is this: http://beefproject.com/ (link is harmless, just the website *describing* the tool and showing how to use it).

Of course, that would be overstepping several lines... Depends on your threat model though.

The_Davster - 23-4-2014 at 15:49

ok guys, someone posted something in this thread that is fucking up the forum appearance beyond this page. Notice that a black line separating posts or threads is randomly thicker throughout the forum. And it seems to have only shown up since I noticed this thread's funky warning thing. Whoever did it, undo it.

Try refreshing? It's not like that for me and HTML coding in a thread shouldn't break the topic list.

thesmug - 23-4-2014 at 16:58

It might, if they really know how to mess things up. Also, why no more sunglasses smiley?

packetforger - 24-4-2014 at 02:15

The_Davster: It is not the alert box, the scope of that only affects this thread, and only if that particular post is loaded into the browser. I will have a look around though, and if I notice the lines being thicker anywhere will have a look to see if I can spot what the cause of it is. Could just be a browser issue, what browser do you use?

As far I remember, these "black lines" appeared shortly after your friend bfesser became a moderator.
Position of these lines depends on the size of browser window.
Under FF or IE it acts in the same way.
