I have a Soxhlet extractor that has a hairline crack running all the way around the thin siphon tube.
Since the glass work holds the tube rigidly in place it carries no load, but will leak obviously.
Is there some way to seal this so that it is still usable (perhaps in a restricted use scenario)? I am thinking of a ceramic cement, if such a thing
exits (silicic acid based?).
Suggestions?

You could try melting the glass back together if you have a hot enough torch.
In any case, if you do fix it, don't subject it to too much stress (physical or thermal) afterwards.

I would contact a local glassblower and get a quote, they are professionals and have much better resources.

Yeah, they aren't all THAT expensive -- still, I hate to throw away a fancy piece of glass like that.
I suppose a real glass blower could fix it by melting a girdle from a glass rod around it.
I have propane and butane torches that can bend glass. Maybe if I just heat it up, held vertically, it might fuse together again?
