It all depends on where you live. If you live in the US I recomend searching Froogle.com for it. There are at least 4 or 5 suppliers that come up quick after the initial sponsored ads that have decent prices. There is one with 12 pounds of the good stuff for $70 incl. shipping.

If you live outside of the US, try looking around for "Bangsite". It is the major brand name of calcium carbide powder. It is probably fairly pricy, and comes in little tubes. It's used for small acetylene cannons. Finding a source for the cannon probably means you have found a source for the calcium carbide too.

I see it on E-bay pretty often.

And then...

I did Froogle and I came up with Calcium_Carbide.com:D $12for 1 lb, including shipping, is not bad and it is repacked in my home state!

I placed an order a few months ago for a couple of pounds from:

http://www.calcium-carbide.com/

It came within a few days and was from what I could tell very good material.

WOW!

I am glad to hear that! I will have to place an order soon.

I saw an ebay add for a 50-gallon drum of CaC2 for $1.50. Would that be enough? :D
