New FTP

MadHatter - 29-6-2005 at 03:38

I've finally got a new FTP setup. I recommend using FileZilla(Thank You Polverone !)
which can be obtained from:

http://www.sourceforge.net

All logins will be at: ftp://imgtf.no-ip.org
Put in your userid, password, 21 for the port and click "QuickConnect". It's that simple.
Note: Your userid is your member name. Remember to use CAPS if they're in your name.

All admiinistrators, moderators, and FTP hosts will have their own subdirectories with full
read/write/delete/subdirectory privileges. Everybody else needs to U2U me for access.
I'll U2U the admins, mods, and FTP hosts when I have more time. Life's been hell lately.
This FTP is in no way meant to be a competition for other FTP servers or libraries.
The purpose is to provide an additional resource as well as reduce the bandwith load on
other servers and this board. In other words - I want to share the costs.

THE RULES:

1) There are subdirectories for things that you're looking for, want to sell, or want to
donate. Post any relevant information there.
2) There is a subdirectory called "OTHER". This is where uploads unlrelated to our
"hobbies" go. Don't put them in the "UPLOAD" subdirectory because I will DELETE
them !
3) The UPLOAD subdirectory is where everything else goes.

I've dedicated a subdirectory to HYDRAZINE, given the interest in this particular compound.
I'm still scanning in the pages of Hydrazine And Its Derivatives", 1st Edition, 1984.
If any member knows where I can find the 2nd Edition at a reasonable price, PLEASE U2U ME !

denatured - 29-6-2005 at 07:54

قشطة عليك
if you asked me what that words in Arabic means ...

It means great work , well done , nice contribution etc.

Now anyone looking for Chemistry , SMDB is the way ... 4 places rich of information !!!

Thanks MadHatter , REALLY

P.S. i tried to login now but i could not.

Or did you get PW's already?

Just give the old man some time! :D

Lambda - 29-6-2005 at 16:00

Chemoleo, I guess I am to impatient at times. No, I didn't U2U for a password yet, and will give the "old" man time before doing so. Thank you for all the time, expence and effort you are putting into this. I will wait patiently.

sparkgap - 30-6-2005 at 04:47

I have just uploaded a copy of Acrobat 7 Pro.
If there are any problems with the archive, please U2U.

Thanks, MadHatter.

FTP Access

MadHatter - 3-7-2005 at 13:00

I won't be able to get back to setting up userids/passwords until Tuesday. With the
holiday I've had to work extra hours because others are taking off. I'm working
tomorrow also.

I'm on a computer at work in which I had to reload with a new O/S because hackers had
thoroughly destroyed the original Windows 98 SE.

[Edited on 3-7-2005 by MadHatter]

Phel - 6-7-2005 at 15:18

Within the next 24 hours, the following material will be on the FTP:

- Granddad's Wonderful Book of Chemistry compiled by Saxon (1987) (as mentioned by Lambda in another thread, 97,5 mb)

- Mathtype keygen (80 kb)

I shall edit this thread when I am finished.

Update:
The above listed files are uploaded now.
I accidentally started uploading a second copy of the Granddad book. If you would be so kind to remove the incomplete version MadHatter :(

Here's what I am currently uploading:

FTP Accounts

MadHatter - 6-7-2005 at 16:28

All requested FTP accounts have been setup and U2Us sent out.

denatured - 7-7-2005 at 01:34

These files need hosting :

http://gamekeeper.deds.nl/pdf.html

Just a thought came to my mind after MadHatter FTP is online.

gamekeeper - 7-7-2005 at 13:50

I'm not able to connect:
Quote:

Status: Connecting to imgtf.no-ip.org ...
Error: Unable to connect!

IrC - 7-7-2005 at 16:10

Which FTP program are you running? I had the same problem with WSFTP PRO but rather that wasting time figuring it out I just D/L'ed filezilla and it zooms right in there.

gamekeeper - 8-7-2005 at 00:33

I use filezilla.

Never had any problems connecting to a ftp-server (no firewall etc.).

Gamekeeper, please verify this

Lambda - 8-7-2005 at 08:22

Dear Gamekeeper, please verify this, and see where you may have gone wrong. It all works fine for me.

FileZilla can be obtained from:
http://www.sourceforge.net

All logins will be at: ftp://imgtf.no-ip.org
Userid: gamekeeper
Password: ??????
Port: 21

And then click "QuickConnect".

Note: Your userid is your member name. Remember to use CAPS if they're in your name.

Remark.: You have a real nice website !:

Time

MadHatter - 8-7-2005 at 16:14

I finished working a 20-hour shift and managed to get only a few more accounts setup
when I got home this morning. I'm on a computer at my full-time job so I won't be able
to add more accounts until about 1:00 AM EDT after I get home.

I've added some new accounts. Gamekeeper look at your U2U for your password.

Some members have had problems using non-FileZilla clients. Like some have already
said: download the FileZilla client.

Because of a hectic work schedule, I won't be able to setup any more accounts until
Sunday, 1:30 AM EDT.

One corrupt file in "journal_of_chemical_education"

Lambda - 9-7-2005 at 04:35

The following file seems to be corrupt:

Directory: journal_of_chemical_education
File: 73_08.pdf
Size: 5,95 mb (6.242.304 bytes)

I will very much appreciate it, if the above mentioned file can be checked and re-uploaded again.

The Kirk Othmer seems a bit small ~450 mb, if it is incomplete, then I will uploade a fully working uncompressed ISO (cd-image) version. I have not checked this file, for I have it allready.

With kind regards,
Lambda.

sparkgap - 9-7-2005 at 07:57

After being notified by a wee little bird that my upload of Acrobat 7 was bad, I have been able to attempt once more to upload it.

The file name is "(from sparkgap) Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.rar".

MadHatter, if you would be so kind as to delete the other RAR file if time allows? Merci!

By uploading Kirk-Othmer's DVD image I caused some broken files. The complete upload will by 1.28 GB, but I stopped it for now to ask Madhatter for the needed permission to resume or at least rename the broken files.

PolyAlchemia - 9-7-2005 at 19:06

Is there any limit to how much we can upload? I have a library of about 1.5 gigs for starters? No need to kill the bandwidth if its not unlimited.

denatured - 9-7-2005 at 20:45

Hey

From my experience Filezilla is very bad in resuming uncompleted downloads & always produce corrupted files, about uploading, i didn't use it for uploading.

I think the best way to upload a file is to split it to small fragments , so it cannot be broken.

JCE

FloridaAlchemist - 10-7-2005 at 08:12

Thanx so much for the JCE;)

Does anyone have pre 1984 or collective sets from the beginning of JCE that they could upload?

Polverone - 10-7-2005 at 12:21

The 73_08 file has been reuploaded as 73_08-fixed.pdf. I did not have permission to overwrite the old one. MadHatter, you should delete the old 73_08.pdf and rename 73_08-fixed.pdf to 73_08.pdf.

FTP Problems

MadHatter - 10-7-2005 at 16:26

When I get home tonight (11:00 PM), I'm going to tweak the interface more as well as
zap a couple of bad files requested by Polverone and sparkgap. As for continuing
a broken upload I'm pretty sure I have to set a flag called "APPEND". Maybe that'll cure
the problem. PLEASE BEAR WITH ME !

There's no limit on filesize that I can find in FileZilla. The drive size is 200 GB, so plenty of
room for the time being.

Subdirectories

MadHatter - 13-7-2005 at 17:35

I've created some new subdirectories but need more time to assign access to members.
Your files aren't missing or deleted. They've been moved to new homes. That's all.

denatured - 15-7-2005 at 01:53

Now uploading
Advanced Organic Chemistry Reactions,Mechanisms and Structure : Fourth Edition by Jerry March

I have splitted the file into 8 pieces(each one is approximately 190 pgs) because the original file is 95MB which is very difficult for me to upload it.

Files:
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 1.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 2.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 3.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 4.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 5.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 6.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 7.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 8.7z

The files are compressed by 7-zip utility which is included in "Software" folder, install it, uncompress & start reading!

denatured - 17-7-2005 at 02:26

Upload Complete

I also uploaded "Schizophrenia, 2nd Edition" in the "other" directory, if anyone interested in the subject:)

I don't know but is this the right thread for ftp updates?

FTP access

MadHatter - 22-7-2005 at 13:22

Yes it is. Work has kept me away from the computer lately. Existing accounts have
been updated for new folders. After work, I'll start creating new accounts according
to request order.

New accounts have just been added and members U2Ued. I won't be able to work with
the FTP until next week. I'll be adding more accounts then.

[Edited on 23-7-2005 by MadHatter]

IrC - 26-7-2005 at 19:14

These two files are corrupt and will not uncompress. Can you re-upload working ones please?

Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 1.7z
Advanced Organic Chemistry Part 8.7z

Also there is a file in /CHEMISTRY - OTHER/ titled megalomania's controversial chem lab - backup - upped by cyclonite4.zip which is also corrupt. Could whoever sent it in re-up this one also?

These three files are on Madhatter's FTP.

Also, does anyone have an e-book of "Sax, Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials, eighth edition" (or any other edition)?

Thanks alnokta, now the book is complete.

Request for: Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials CD-ROM, 11th Edition

Lambda - 27-7-2005 at 07:59

About 7 years ago, I bought the hard-copy of "Sax" for about $1000. Since there is a CD-ROM version available nowadays for about $600, there is no point in making a scan. I have been searching the internet for many years without success.

If anybody can lay there hands on the CD-ROM version, I will give him/her a free tour through the "Red light" district of Amsterdam, and you may screw yourself a Herpies.

Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials CD-ROM,
11th Edition, edited by Richard J. Lewis, Sr.

IrC - 27-7-2005 at 11:30

I would be happy with an older version if that was all there was around. I looked at a new one after Polverone mentioned it, but I just cannot see that much money for it. You know they do not invest that kind of cash renewing the version year after year, they probably reclaimed their original investment in the book in the first edition. Just like the 20,000 dollar toilet seat some people are just to damn greedy for my taste. I wonder is Sax also makes those toilet seats the military buys. The single biggest reason for piracy in the world begins with the pirates making the product and charging so much it forces people to look for other pirates to get it to them at an afordable cost. Just like windoze, if the price was fair in the first place there would be fewer copies made.

A multi million dollar shit

Lambda - 27-7-2005 at 13:14

IrC, have you heard about that Japanies business guy, he shits on a solid Gold toilet of $9.000.000. And what about the Cape Canaveral astronauts, they have some real fun on a $20.000.000 seat,.....what a hell of a shit must they have. Yeh, this one is a real ass scracher, isn't it ? Sorry about this, but I just had to drop this one in.

Indeed, "Sax" did the pioneering work, and since then it has all been "et al", "et al"....etc. Sax has deserved a good pension, don't you think ? Richard J. Lewis (Sr) is doing a fine job at it, I would say.

Server downtime

MadHatter - 28-7-2005 at 01:25

The FTP server was down due to an extended power outage(9 hours). Sadly, even
my UPS backups won't last that long.

VIDEO

MadHatter - 31-7-2005 at 13:14

I haven't had any new account requests so far. About 100 current FTP accounts exist
right now. I'm adding a new subdirectory - VIDEO. The only drawback is that video
clips tend to take up alot of space. Not to worry. I can always add another drive or use
some space on the internal harddrive if necessary. Besides I have an older 120 GB
internal drive not currently in use. Just have to find a way to hook it in because all
available slots/connections are taken up at the moment. I'll update all accounts for access
to the VIDEO subdirectory when I have more time.

the archive of doom

sarcosuchus - 1-10-2005 at 17:59

This is a long shot but here goes.If any body has problems connecting to the ftp,its my fault..im going to try uploading about 30 gigs at once if this works 50 more will follow.I hope no one minds the bad spelling you may find due to lack of sleep on my part.80 hour work weeks are to blame.as for me its back to sleep.

sarcosuchus - 5-10-2005 at 10:57

Well so far ive been able to upload about 8 gigs worth.its going vary slow due to my 5+year old pc.But there is a lot of good files for everybody.I just have one question does anybody know how to force filezilla to transfer files at a faster rate,or stay at say 150 kbs.Ive been messing with the settings but nothing yet that seems to work very well.

Polverone - 5-10-2005 at 11:14

I've never had trouble with FileZilla being especially slow. Do you actually have a connection that will permit uploads at 150 kbps? Most residential broadband connections have much slower upload speeds than download speeds.

sarcosuchus - 6-10-2005 at 12:32

I am on a fiber optic line, that allows me to download 300 megs in about 35 seconds or there about.I have talked to my tech support guy many times he thinks it my OS (windows ME).Its my upload speed that drives me nuts(max 120-150kbs):mad::mad: you never know maybe its the MIB types:D
Hopefully soon Ill be going to win2k and dump winME.. At any rate uploading for me just takes for ever...

neutrino - 6-10-2005 at 13:25

I would have to agree with him, ME is about the bottom rung of the OSs that have come out in the last decade. It might not be the cause of problem, though. Try burning a Linux LiveCD and testing your upload speeds with that. I personally recommend KNOPPIX.

denatured - 7-10-2005 at 05:38

Then thats why i'm unable to connect at all... you are killing Madhatter's bandwidth

sarcosuchus - 7-10-2005 at 12:56

I am very sorry for trashing madhatters bandwidth and any problems that may be causing people. As for the knoppix website my german is a little limited so im not sure what to click on.this OS has got me so paranoid its not funny.I never do more than two things at once for fear that it will crash on me.It takes my pc about 25 min.to restart. At any rate theres only about 4 more gigs to go for this session and ill give his ftp a break for a couple of days.

Phel - 7-10-2005 at 16:06

The book Chemistry of precious Metals is corrupt. Can someone upload it again? Thanks in advance!

I'd also like to know if the Encyclopedia of Chromatography is complete and working?

IrC - 8-10-2005 at 12:01

On axehandles ftp my dsl downloads at 167 kilobytes per second. I am sitting here watching one file, chemistry1.zip, come in on madhatters at under 2k/sec with only 96 hours left to go. Right now this is all that is going on other than making this post so nothing else could be bothering my bandwidth. I thought he was going to stay off madhatters a couple days? It would take me a thousand hours to get the whole chemistry zip file set so obviously it is not worth the trouble.

sarcosuchus - 8-10-2005 at 16:33

My connection to madhatters ftp has been yo-yoing from 120kbs to 2kbs.Its very fustrating for me trying to get my pc to do what I want it to.As for upsetting people this was the last thing I was trying to do.So i am going to lay off any uploading untill i work out my own problems with my machine.I was just trying to share what ive spent 3 1/2 years collecting with people that I thought would appreciate the material.

IrC - 8-10-2005 at 18:28

I am glad you are putting up books and information, that is the main reason I go online to science site's is building my library. Have you thought about putting some of it on axehandles so that the load is spread between two ftp's?

[Edited on 9-10-2005 by IrC]

FTP

MadHatter - 30-10-2005 at 08:14

The original idea was to take pressure off other FTPs and libraries(axehandle, BromicAcid,
Eliteforum). IIRC, axehandle's FTP has an upload speed of 1.5 mbps - about twice that of mine.
FileZilla allows me to set speed limits but I turn them off to allow the full upload speed. The
same can be said about the number of connections allowed per user. It's set to no limit It's
1st come 1st serve. There are times when alot of users are accessing and the bandwidth
slice per user will be small. Sometimes, there's only 1 user who will be downloading at full
speed. I haven't had any problems with my ISP over bandwidth but I can't get a faster upload
speed either.

Eclectic - 30-10-2005 at 09:27

Also, what's happening with "Hydrazine and It's Derivatives"?

FTP users

MadHatter - 10-1-2006 at 18:02

4 new folders: BOOKS - FICTION, BOOKS - NON-FICTION, HOW-TO, and MEDICAL have been
added to the FTP. After several months of working extremely hard with 2 jobs, I'm finally
getting back to scanning in Hydrazine And Its Derivatives(1st Edition 1984).
The process has been tedious because
of the size of the scan files. I found away around this without creating a 5 GB file. Scan the
file as a .TIF, edit with PhotoImpact, and then import into Adobe Acrobat. This is keeping the
page sizes down to 350 KB. I should end up with a 450-500 MB file which can be zipped down.
Resolution is 300 DPI which is sufficient for viewing.

I cannot get the ftp to work. I built a new machine, and wsftp pro latest ver will not find the site. I entered the account info same as what always worked before on old machine. All my other ftp's including axehandles work fine. Installed filezilla and it connects and logs in as far as my account info is concerned, and sticks at no directory listing. After a minute or so it says cannot retrieve directory listing. Port 21, etc., all info same as what worked on other computer with same program. There are zero changes as far as internet connection is concerned, only change is computer. Operating system is same as old one. Any ideas?

Win 98 second edition, on old computer and new one. I hate anything higher as they force too much control out of your hands. I like to be able to configure everything and not be forced to do things the microsoft way. I do not have any firewall of any kind, connection is DSL. Not worried about hackers, nothing they can do I cannot fix in under 3 hours anyway. Thanks for replying.

FileZilla

MadHatter - 4-3-2006 at 14:47

I couldn't work on my computer for while but all new account requests have been handled.

As for connecting in FileZilla client, sometimes Passive Mode helps.

1) Click "Edit" on menu bar
2) Click "Settings..." from pulldown menu
3) Click "Firewall settings" (1st entry under "Connection" tree)
4) Click "Passive Mode" checkbox or type alt-p
5) Click "OK" button

Retry the connection. It works most of the time. Hope it helps you out. Right now, this is
all I can offer because I'm on a computer at work.

Mert, check your U2U.

I guess I give up then. Passive mode is on by default upon install, just checked. It worked fine on two other computers, nothing is different as far as net connection goes. It appears to log in and verify my account just fine, then says error cannot retrieve directory listing. Maddening to not know why.

Forgot to mention but same wsftp pro and same filezilla work fine at my own ftp and also axehandles, only yours won't work. Funny thing is this same error is why I cannot get into the scipics here using any ftp. Polverone said it had to do with my DSL as he runs into same problem, I think he said at work, but he gets in fine at home.

IrC, I have the same problem:
I've been able to acces the ftp everytime just untill a couple of weeks ago, where I started to recieve exactly the same error. I haven't changed anything on my computer and I have no clue how to fix this (tried the passive/active mode too). If someone has a good idea, I'm all ears.

IrC - 5-3-2006 at 04:05

Read my update to the post above yours, I was editing my post while you were making yours.

No idea how my update got edited out, I reloaded the page and it was there last night. What it said was I got it to work by making sure all boxes were unchecked under firewall. Passive was checked by the install program to start with.

FTP/Internet quirks

MadHatter - 5-3-2006 at 10:42

It's strange to me that at work, sometimes I have to change the settings in FileZilla's client
to access my own FTP. This is a university computer at work. I don't know if the problem
is with FileZilla or the network. I envy the university's upload speed - about 9 times as fast
as what I have.

IrC - 7-3-2006 at 11:18

After spending the last 12 hours watching 10kb/sec, any chance both FTP's would want to get into selling site DVD sets?

Windows XP SP2 + RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack + a very bad cpu

You can get Ryan's from here: http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html

FTP Drive Crashed

MadHatter - 27-6-2006 at 07:27

I've started another thread on this. I also had many problems with a general system
crash because of all too common conflict with various hardware and software vendors.

FTP Downtime

MadHatter - 1-12-2007 at 19:18

The isp is malfunctioning again. The FTP server won't be back up until they get
their act together. Does anybody know anything about the longevity of Motorola
cable modems ?

The network is back up. The isp is screwy at times.

Robust FTP & File Server setup.

(DSL ISP1)==[ADSL2+ Modem]==[Linksys Dual Broadband Router, RV042]==[ADSL2+ Modem]==(DSL ISP2)

FTP Server and File Server are connected to the Linksys Dual Broadband Router, RV042 via LAN.

Linksys Dual Broadband Router, RV042 with two fast DSL ISP connections, with static ISP IP's. The router is configured for remote administration so it can be rebooted via the internet, or hard rebooted using a mobile phone.

There is a kit you can buy that will allow you to cycle the power off/on using a mobile phone if the router & servers, or both freeze. If the router and servers freeze you MUST do a mobile phone power recycle off/on; as remote administration will fail. The self-monitoring software installed on both servers will also fail to reboot if both servers (very unlikely) have crashed.

SMS Controller Kit KC-5400 http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5400

Ref: Silicon Chip 2004
The SMS controller kit works with Nokia 3210, 3310, 5110, and 6110 models to control electronic outputs, and gives you a host of control options. The possible uses are almost endless! Kit includes PCB, pre-programmed midro, and all electronic components. Requires Nokia data cable.

FTP

MadHatter - 20-3-2009 at 02:08

Wankers at comcast have imposed a 250 gb per month bandwidth limit on all
residential accounts. Speed limits in kb/sec are imposed as follows:

February(non-leap year): 103.3
February(leap year): 99.7
April, June, September, November: 96.4
January, March, May, July, August, October, December: 93.3

This is the upload/download bandwidth pie. All alternatives to this greedy abomination
are welcome.

I can introduce you to the guy who takes care of my hosting, and I can tell him to treat you like he does me, I have been his cistomer for 12 years.

He is located in Jamestown NY and he recently broke away from Titan Nrtworks in Chicago.

Tell me what sort of a deal you want and we will see what he can do for you.

undead_alchemist - 21-3-2009 at 12:12

You can also try this company:

They have some good deals.
