Gas combination that explodes upon light

Douchermann - 3-12-2005 at 08:07

Does anyone know the combination of gases that explode when strong light hits them? IIRC it was two elemental gases, but I jsut can't remember which ones.

Is there any minimal level of knowladge in chemistry needed for posting here?
what about the "beginers" forum?

H2 + F2 ... but I suggest not to try it!

Actually, fluorine will explode with hydrogen in the dark at low temperatures.

I knew what they were, I just forgot. I wasn't planning on trying it, it's just been bugging me for about a month and a google search didn't show up with anything. Thank you to all who didn't make a comment like that.

Added to that, fluorine will kill you if you breathe it. That's what happened to the first guys who synthesised F2. In those days things had to be smelled and "tasted". We still do the same in many occasions...
