I have not been able to access this German chemistry site for several days now. What I get instead is "general error" and a "debug" message. Are others having this same problem?

Chemosynthesis - 12-1-2015 at 16:16

Yes.

plante1999 - 12-1-2015 at 16:18

Yes, for over two weeks now.

Mailinmypocket - 12-1-2015 at 16:29

Same here.

The Volatile Chemist - 12-1-2015 at 17:15

Someone might need to attempt to extract/download the database from the site in case it stays down for a while longer.

plante1999 - 14-1-2015 at 15:57

Still down, and it would be great to know if anyone got an archive copy of it.

The Volatile Chemist - 14-1-2015 at 16:45

It's the really big German forum, right?

gdflp - 14-1-2015 at 19:18

Yep, that's the one.

Mabus - 15-1-2015 at 04:47

Hmm, I can still access some of the files uploaded there via Google search.
This works for me: http://www.versuchschemie.de/upload/files2/98519590_2244.pdf

Mabus, that comes because the uploaded files apparently are in a static location, not accessed through the database - driven Forum Software The error message that comes usually shows that a (some, ..., ?) tables of that database are unacccessable / corrupted.

There is a thread on another German chem forum, illumina, where one very active member of Versuchschemie.de informs that he has a recent backup of the site, somewhere mid December 2014. So the content of the site is not lost, even if for some reason it won't come back.

The admin of Versuchschemie.de seems not to react to any contact attempt. So, everything is speculation, nobody has any hard facts.

Hope that helps.

The Volatile Chemist - 15-1-2015 at 12:44

That's good. could someone link to such a thread? I'd like to download it so that there ain't a monopoly on versuchschemie (or lachmuspulver...)...

Very proud of that contribution...

It belong to business secrets: Hartmut work with the NSA (from the USA) to prevent that terrorism would happen in Germany, did you follow the news: France, Belgium, Germany and ISIS.

You can search it on Google:

Versuchschemie.de :: - Moderation von VC
www.versuchschemie.de › ... › Moderation von VC

1 dec. 2013 - 15 berichten - ‎9 auteurs
"Ich kriege von der NSA $ 100,-- pro Datensatz und ich brauch das ... Passwörter usw. bei mir einreichen, ich leite diese dann an Hartmut weiter."

mfg,
Java-shake

btw: I have > 1000 pages of cool experiments, with pictures and text and can translate it in English because my family is german: let's negotiate :P

Just to say: no panic :)

jock88 - 17-1-2015 at 12:38

Who is Hartmut?

Magpie - 18-1-2015 at 09:09

It looks like this forum is back on-line now. Doktor Klawonn said that the problem is dealing with Harmut the site administration.

JAVA - 18-1-2015 at 09:29

Hartmut is the administrator, the problem was that the HD was crashed (according to Hartmut but can confirm that VC was reacting very slow), they make back-up's to prevent data loss.

Hartmut is planning a sabbatical. Do you know sabbatical ?
maybe it's all too late... :P

Try it out -> Experiments on the forum. It's pretty cool and unique.

See link below.

When i try and go on versuchschemie.de i get a malware warning... Anyone else get this?

Mabus - 19-1-2015 at 09:34

What browser do you use?
To me, only Torch and Comodo Dragon (both Chrome clones) show a malware warning when I try to access the website, the other browsers don't.

Sorry, i should of mentioned. Google chrome.

Mabus - 19-1-2015 at 13:15

Then it must be from the browser, though my Chrome has no issues accessing the website.

Mabus - 24-4-2015 at 13:26

Does anyone have problems accessing the site?

gdflp - 24-4-2015 at 14:31

Yes, I just tried IE, Chrome, and Firefox and none of them worked. They must be having another issue.

plante1999 - 24-4-2015 at 15:16

Again down.

APO - 24-4-2015 at 22:30

Down again for me too, gosh, I hope it comes back up again.

Mabus - 27-4-2015 at 14:14

Seems to be back. Hopefully it will stay that way.

APO - 27-4-2015 at 21:27

Seems to be back for me as well, wonder why it's been down occasionally...

The Volatile Chemist - 30-4-2015 at 11:38

Has it been backed up by any members recently?

Mabus - 2-5-2015 at 14:52

Speaking of backing up, has anyone considered Wayback Machine?

The Volatile Chemist - 28-10-2015 at 15:28

The Wayback Machine has all of the main pages, but none of the actual forum threads. They rarely ever document things like that. The wayback machine is for getting a glimpse of what things looked like at different times, not for backing up websites.

Versuchschemie.De seems down again, and has been for a long time. If anyone has a complete archive, please tell me, I'd like to download it, or get it in some manner.

battoussai114 - 28-10-2015 at 20:18

I can try to set up some web crawlers on the university* to back things up if it comes back again.... someone U2U me if it comes back.

*Lots of bandwidth with their optic-fiber connection.

It's most definitely hit and miss, but archive.org does have a fair amount of the forum in the archive. It's probably not (humanly) feasable to browse, but if you come across a direct link to a versuchschemie.de post, it's worth a shot. For example (from this SM thread):

https://web.archive.org/web/20130606105530/http://www.versuc...

Volatile Chemist - I've got a (very messy) dump (it's on my list to clean up a bit), I'll get in touch with you.

The Volatile Chemist - 29-10-2015 at 13:29

Thanks bwn, I sent you a U2U.
I'd like to do a bit of translating of what does exist, there were some really cool posts there. I'd started this a few weeks before they had gone offline again.

Pok - 12-11-2015 at 15:55

The forum was copied in Jan 2015 and saved as pdf files. You can find the links here:

http://illumina-chemie.de/versuchschemie-als-pdf-download-st...

It would be great if someone could upload the data elsewhere in a format similar to the original forum so that one can find all the content with a common search engine again.

The Volatile Chemist - 15-11-2015 at 13:51

That's a nice collection, I downloaded the Die Experimente zip.
