Solar Eclipse 2015!

Tomorrow on march 20th 08:30GMT there will be solar eclipse mostly visible in Europe and North - North east Asia.
The European Union has about 90 Gigawatts of solar power and production may temporarily decrease by up to 34 GW of that if the sky is clear.Temperature may decrease by 3°C, and wind power may decrease as winds are reduced by 0.7 m/s.

It will have a magnitude of 1.045. The longest duration of totality will be 2 minutes 47 seconds off the coast of the Faroe Islands. It is the last total solar eclipse visible in Europe until the eclipse of August 12, 2026.

PC:I know this has nothing to do with chemistry but it is still a fun science fact.

Hope you see it I definitely will:)

Thanks for the info! i will try to see it. It's at 9:30 for me, so (hopefully) I'll be awake.

ISCGora - 19-3-2015 at 10:33

Well be sure to get up because your next chance will be in 11 years:D

woelen - 19-3-2015 at 11:06

Tomorrow I also certainly will watch it. I will be at my work at that time, but of course, I will take a fairly long break around 10:00 in the morning.

Pyro - 19-3-2015 at 14:48

Watching it with my whole school tomorrow. It will be almost total here.

We should get supplied with glasses, but I have the lens of a welding mask packed just in case!

aga - 19-3-2015 at 14:51

likely i'll wake up too late, and have to see it in some online eClips.

Edit:

If for any reason it looks anything like an Apple, you will get sued for calling it an iClipse.

Doh !

The End (of humans) is currently more determined by Humans, simply due to the fact that our own efforts in making it happen Eclipses those of random universal events.

That we will cease to be is certain.

How remains a mystery.

My "pet" theory is, the internet will create the end.

Set a group of hackers loose to gain access to all the banks, power companies, shipping markets, and Govt. institutions.

Scramble the whole deal, and see how long it takes people to loose it!

Remember when the TV Cable companies used to send out the "Silver Bullet"?

Most religion's believe war or fire... Electricity is that fire, and data is the war.

Just a pet theory.

:) yep just 3 more mins and it starts I have popcorn welding mask sucky camera all done :D

woelen - 20-3-2015 at 02:20

I have not seen anything of the eclipse :(
We had heavy clouds, no sun could be observed. The only thing we noticed during the eclipse was darkening as if evening started.

Pyro - 20-3-2015 at 04:15

It was overcast here too, but by 11AM the sun popped through for a minute.
I got a pic of it!
later it came through more and was too bright to see without glasses, I tried taking a pic through them but it didn't work.

the sky was clear here and we had a good view, (middle of England)
but it was only about 80% eclipse so not spectacular,
it did make the birds go quiet though.

Pyro - 24-3-2015 at 11:46

My friend in Brussels sent me a picture he took of the eclipse at it's climax
