I have a small bottle of Hart Tropical Solution Providine Iodine Skin Cleaner. How whould i extract the iodine in the form of crystals?

Getting your money back and buying a group I iodide is the best way. Then just oxidize it to iodine with an acid and hydrogen peroxide.

Or, assuming that it is the iodine rather than the experience that you require,
if you have patience and a PayPal account http://stores.ebay.co.uk/less9-ltd?_dmd=1&_nkw=iodine+cr...

I ordered the 50g bottle a few days ago (50g = c 10cc)
the purity is listed as 99.8%
almost certainly cheaper than the cost of povidone, hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid required in the video above

Edit: keep the povidone, it is a very effective antiseptic,
especially good at 'curing' a boil if started early.

If it is iodine you want, I have boight from an ebay supplier much cheaper than that. When I get on my other device, I can post a link.

Iodine may not be the same difficult acquisition that it was a few years ago. I obtained a small bottle of tincture recently, via Safeway.

Restrictions ruffled a lot of influential feathers. Some, were Agribusiness feathers. Iodine has Veterinary and other critical uses, and there is no readily available, effective, and economical, substitute.

Before antibiotics, many a simple scratch, led to infection and death. Iodine was a common prophylactic. A little splash of Iodine, and Bingo! Good to go. Still works.

As I recall, one of Rupert Blue's Bosses died from an infected scratch.

As did the protagonist in "The Snows of Kilimanjaro"

Quick update & a question

the 50g of iodine prills from the link that I posted above arrived today,
just under two weeks of ordering from China.
the supplied plastic container does not seem 'vapour proof'
so most of it I put in a test tube with a ground glass stopper and then I poured candle wax over the joint as a seal.

As a quick test/play I put about 5g of the prills in a similar test tube
and heated it very gently over the candle used to seal the storage tube,
the prills melted then iodine vapour sublimed onto the tube wall with no sign of water condensation.
not done a m.p. test yet, so purity not confirmed but low/no water content confirmed.

During the above I could hear and feel what seemed to be liquid iodine boiling,
(I could not see if it was boiling due to dense vapour and sublimed crystals),
this is consistent with m.p. = 113.7C and b.p. = 184.3 C (Wikipedia)
but not consistent with iodine sublimation videos on YouTube
or with what I did and was taught in school
.. iodine going directly from solid to vapour.
Is the difference just because I heated the iodine slowly/gently?

P.S. from the same supplier I could have got 5x the quantity for 3x the cost but I can't imagine needing 250g. (other than NI3) :D
