Lead metal from a lead-acid battery

Upsilon - 13-9-2015 at 07:58

I bought a 12V 18Ah lead-acid battery on Amazon (it's an AGM so there is no free liquid inside) and the one they shipped me had one of its seams slightly split open, so I emailed their customer support. They just sent me a new working battery for free, and now I still have this broken battery trying to find out what to do with it. I'm thinking about disassembling it for the lead metal inside. Is there anything I should be extra careful about? I don't want to end up shorting it out somehow and having it potentially blow up.
