Preparation of Chloroacetic Acid (for Nitromethane)

Hey guys

I'm going to make Nitromethane via chloroacetic acid and sodium nitrite procedure

Now, I need reasonably pure MCA (monochloroacetic acid)
I'm trying to avoid whole chlorine generator setup and thinking about chlorinating GAA directly by generating chlorine in situ.
So here's the process that I'm wondering about :

How about a suspension of manganese dioxide in GAA with Conc Hydrochloric acid added drop wise?

Have any of you ever tried anything similar?? Or is there any other way of direct chlorination in situ that you might have had any experience with??

P.s. I'll be updating my progress regarding this process

Thanks in advance..

Google is ur friend
https://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/chloroaceti...
But chlorination is hard but if you can do that, there is a risk of overchlorination(di and trichloroacetic acid)
