Hydrogen cyanide trap

Korialstrasz69 - 9-12-2015 at 05:49

If i want to trap and "detoxificate" HCN ,could a solution of NaOH and Fe(+2) ions transform the cyanide to sodium ferrocyanate ?And if it 's possible,what would be the best Fe(+2) salt of choice ? Because the ferrous salts i have will react with sodium hydrocide exept for Fe(OH)2 which is insoluble in water.
Any ideas ?

FeCl2 + Ca(OH)2 + HCN => Ca2[Fe(CN)6]
Ca2[Fe(CN)6] + 2 KCl => CaK2[Fe(CN)6]↓ + CaCl2
CaK2[Fe(CN)6] + K2CO3 => K4[Fe(CN)6] + CaCO3
