Anyone collect vintage/antique lab glass? Want some?

chemistrysquirrel - 24-12-2015 at 14:44

Hello! I've been lurking around for a while, but finally decided to register.

I was wondering where I could go to unload a bunch of antique/vintage lab glass and equipment? I have a lot of random pieces of old Pyrex and Kimax glass from a defunct pharmacy (especially a lot of adapters I can't identify) and I'd rather sell it to people that I know will appreciate it.

Is there anyone who would be interested in this stuff?

Zephyr - 24-12-2015 at 14:57

I'm definitely interested in purchasing, where are you located and what do you have to offer?

Thanks, Zephyr

Texium - 24-12-2015 at 15:07

Yes please! I would happily have a little bidding war with Zephyr here if necessary. ;)

chemistrysquirrel - 24-12-2015 at 15:19

I'm currently sorting through the glass and trying to identify some of it. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

In the meantime, is there anything in particular that you're looking for?

If you have any Schlenk or related glass, let me know! Doubtful from a pharmacy, but you never know. If you have any glass which you can't identify, post pictures here. There are quite a few experienced chemists here, and one of us will probably be able to ID it.

I don't have anything specific in mind, but I would love to see the pictures, and if something happens to catch my eye I may buy it.

I'd love some, but doubt I could afford the shipping.

Here are some quick photos of just a couple of things! I'll post more as soon as my camera battery is charged and I get some decent light in my apartment. :p

Nice stuff there! One thing you can do eventually that would be very helpful (though also a lot of work), would be to make a spreadsheet documenting all of the pieces and how much you're charging for them, as Dr. Bob does with his glassware. http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=15667&...

Will do! Would it also be a better idea to make a new thread for just glass identification only?

Texium - 25-12-2015 at 09:34

It would be fine to keep all of the stuff related to this glassware here, though if you want you can post the glassware identification questions in this thread.

#3 has 2 Gas Bubblers. They are used to bubble gas though a liquid.

Okay, I must be dense, because I can't figure out how to make my spreadsheet work. I'll try to make this as organized as possible.

I'll write a quick description of the item for sale and then post a link that goes to a picture of the item with more details. If this doesn't work well or is confusing, please let me know and I'll diddle with Excel some more.

Prices are negotiable and shipping will depend on where you are and what you purchase. :) Everything posted so far is for sale. If I haven't put up a price, please make an offer!

Cent tubes - left tube is a Kontes logo. the adapter is a 5mm thermometer adapter for a 14/22 joint.

Mystery valve 2 is a reagent sprayer, compressed air is feed into the tube by the thumb, and it draws (aspirates) the liquid from the bottom tube and sprays it out on the right side.

Mystery valve 3 is just a stopcock on a 24/40 gas inlet adapter, plus a 24/40 jointed tube.

mystery glass 2: gas collection flask. Mystery glass #3 are gas trap/ bubbler. Mineral oil is added to just above the bottom tube. When connected to "air free set up air is prevented from entering the set up. During a reaction where gassing occurs the exiting gas bubbles through the oil.
