B + HCl

Hello I've found this video showing reaction between boron and hydrochloric acid, and I doubt if it's possible at all. (elemental boron should be resistant to HCl).

I can't see the video but it's BS: B is a metalloid and doesn't react with mineral acids. Perhaps with strong, hot nitric acid because it's a strong oxidiser. Perhaps.

Additional question:
I have found somewhere that when u insert NdFeB magnet into the HCl it will dissolve + u will get some boric acid - but that seems to nonsense, u should get elemental boron instead. Am I right ?

If you dissolve an NdFeB magnet in HCl, most of the B stays behind as insoluble residue (a small amount escapes as borane/diborane). But these magnets don't contain much boron at all.

If you look at his other uploads, you see he has made a series of videos of 'A + HCl', 'B + HCl', 'C + HCl', 'D + HCl' and finally 'Preparation for A level chemistry'.

So this test tube is simply marked as item 'B' not boron :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I suspect it's zinc powder.

Boron is remarkably inert. I added crystalline boron to conc. HNO3 and heated this, but no visible reaction occurred. I could not find any aqueous chemistry treatment, which attacked the boron at an appreciable rate. Probably with high temperature solid-solid chemistry (e.g. mixes with Mg or Al, or mixes with strong oxidizers like KClO4) you can get it to react. Boron is nice for element collections, but for chemistry experiments it is quite dull.

If you look at the other videos on that channel, there is "A + HCl", "C + HCl", and "D + HCl" as well. So it is likely that B is supposed to mean "unknown B" was used in the experiment, rather than elemental boron.

The clue was he was doing a standard school type test :does it evolve a gas in acid, color of the solution, if a gas is evolved is it CO2 or hydrogen. The other videos are confirmation. An attached explanation of the video would have been nice.

Cool, so what you're saying is, you didn't do one thread of investigation into what the title of the video could possibly mean, i.e. checking the uploader's other videos, and then attacked someone with a low post count because they didn't agree with your conclusion. So glad we have you as one of the main faces of this forum.
