Aother OTC chems question

cryomancer - 31-3-2016 at 10:51

Trying to set up my own home lab (god its expensive, i have other things i want to buy as well :) and need a few chemicals but I am having trouble finding them in hardware stores. Now to my pleasure have been able to get Spectracide brand tree stump remover cheaply and without ID (im not 18) and sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid are next on my list and if anyone know of a type of product they are found at relatively high concentrations in that would be helpful. And if you could please provide a Brand name as it makes it easier to look it up and see if any stores carry it in my area.

It would be much easier if you specify what area you would be in, since products are different in each. US, Europe, Asia, Mars, etc. Even regions help a lot, since in the US, many chems are not available in all states. You don't need to list your address, just a rough idea, that helps get better answers to those questions.

Ya probably should have listed that part. Im in the US and in the Memphis Tri-State area.

There are tons of drain cleaners of sulfuric acid, most around 90-93 percent. Search a product near you and look at the msds . They sell HCL as muriatic acid at about 30 percent. Online it is sold at about 37 percent as well as sulphuric acid. I think you need an I.D though.

H2SO4- Zep, liquid lighting,flow easy,...
Hcl- crown, sunny side, tons of pool brands,

Hi
Does anyone knows the composition of magnesium alloy for sacrificial anodes?
Is it worth the pains to extract the magnesium?

I looked it up and most are >95% pure, with the rest mainly being aluminium.

Try drain cleaner but if you can't try to make them.

OTC magnesium from fire starter blocks. I use a 1/2 inch drill bit to make turnings . I bought mine a local department store . I have used said turnips to form Grignard reagent PhMrBr. It works fairly well compared to turning from chem supply . Only real difference is that from the block the turnings are smaller, more of a flake than turning and the reaction will run away if you are not prepared with ice water. Other than that it works !

Deathunter88 and skip,

cryomancer, I can't ship any liquids, but if you could use any other chemicals, feel free to U2U me. If I have what you need and extra on hand, I'd be more than happy to help. I guess that could go for others too, just basic stuff, nothing exotic or toxic.
