Alternative: Less usual Homemade Reagents

There are a bunch of videos on YouTube for reagent and solvent synthesis. But most are trivial as diethyl ether, ethanol etc.
Are you aware abouth this book?

It's very useful and explains a lot technical issues.
If you can't find it on Google I can send you a copy.

It's interesting that you should recommend that book; it was written by a Sciencemadness member, Len1.

That is a great book, thanks for pointing it out. Perhaps Len1 could donate a copy to the SciMad library... Or sell copies cheap to members... It looks like a great course for many reagents.

Thats a heckin price tag. I will put that on my wishlist for when I have money to expand my science endeavors.

If it was made my a science madness member what is the likelyhood of a good amount of the content already being on the site?

Look for it in Amazon and other places, as it gets out, there will be used copies for less eventually. Ebay has a new copy for under $150. Very little is here in the level of detail in this book. There are only a few books I have seen with that level of details, similar to the "Organic Syntheses" type writeups with many details, theoretical analysis, and even photos of the setups. I might buy one for work.

For now, there is an electronic PDF version for sale at a place below for $55, hopefully a legit source.

That looks like a fantastic book.

Len's book is truly outstanding. I have a copy. I would never have been able to make CCl4 without it.

That would be beyond fantastic to be honest.

Seven of his write-ups are posted in PrePub.

Unfortunately, Len hasn't been online in almost 3 years.

He is certainly a loss to the forum..............................

Unfortunately Len has no rights to distribute the book or sell copies cheaply, and he expected to make no money from it. I think it was more important to him he publish his work, and having written a book is great on a resume.
