sodium pyrosulfate from sodium bisulfate question

sonogashira - 20-12-2006 at 13:33

I have read that this is a relatively easy conversion - simply heating the bisulfate to a modest temperature. I am also aware that above a certain temperature the pyrosulfate decomposes into SO3.

Could someone please help me with the conditions that i would need for this reaction. Is it ok to just heat the sodium bisulfate in an oven at, say, 200 C? Is there any risk of SO3 formation at this temperature? Also, how long would i have to heat for (i read in another thread that it is days!! Is this true??), and what steps would i need to take to separate the pyrosulfate from the unreacted bisulfate.

Thanks in advance for any help, and a merry christmas to all!

Why start a whole new thread for this, when there is already quite a lot of posting on this, which you are aware of? I doubt that there is a simple easy way of getting a pure single product from this, much like heating phosphoric acids.

Why not find out for yourself and let us know like in the other thread?
