Anyone want to swap chemistry stuff?

Melgar - 13-11-2017 at 07:18

So, I have a lot of crap I don't need, and I assume I'm not the only one. Here is some of it:

And there's plenty more. This is all stuff I don't need to get rid of immediately, but would be willing to TRADE to other people for. So I'd want something in return. Since nobody here seems to have any money, and the ones that do are always wanting to low-ball, maybe regent swapping would work better? Probably also throw in a list of stuff you want, and possibly group buys as well, where if we find something available in large quantities for a discount, we can pool our money.

Potential group buys: pyridine, iodomethane, dibromomethane, sodium bis-something-aluminum hydride reducing agent in toluene (don't say the name that brings the kewl kids), precious metal salts (via dissolving the metals), etc.

Any thoughts?

VSEPR_VOID - 13-11-2017 at 09:27

I am looking for round bottom flasks, vacuum take off adapters, condensers, and other assorted organic glassware. I am in the South Florida region and have a large amount of 1L pyrex Flasks (one vacuum and another screw cap) and a few graduated cylinders.

If you are interested in a trade pm me.

LD5050 - 13-11-2017 at 11:50

I'm always looking for glass ware, maybe a nice hot plate or heating mantle, and always looking for harder to get chems.

Things I have for trade are:

Red phosphorus
Para formaldehyde
Nitroethane
Acetic anyhydried
Benzaldehyde

VSEPR_VOID - 13-11-2017 at 13:29

How much red phosphorous?

Cryolite. - 13-11-2017 at 15:57

Things I have:

Red Phosphorus
Acetic Anhydride
Isophorone
2-Naphthol
Sodium metal (in can)
Acetanilide
Cyclohexanone
Adipic acid
Ethylvanillin
2-chlorobenzoic acid (bought a lot at once, used like 30 grams on acridone synthesis)
Acetophenone
Adipic acid
Propiophenone
Paraformaldehyde
Hexamine
Lithium chloride

If you're interested in any of this, PM me and we can work something out. These are all things off the top of my head, so if you want something in particular ask and I might have some. I'm mostly interested in interesting organic reagents (substituted benzaldehydes, aliphatic buikding blocks, cool natural products) so if you've got some of those let me know. Otherwise I can trade for cash.

EDIT: found some more stuff!

Ferrocene
Hydroquinone
Potassium Chlorate (enough for chemistry, but not enough for pyro)
3,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde
Perovskite grade Lead(II) Bromide
Methyl Anthranilate
Isatoic Anhydride
Guanidinium Carbonate and Guanidinium Thiocyanate
Salicylic acid
Resorcinol

Plunkett - 13-11-2017 at 17:02

I have 6 kg of sodium bromide I will trade for most anything.

Dr.Bob - 13-11-2017 at 17:57

I still have some flasks, jointed glassware, and much more, mostly for sale, but might be willing to trade for other glassware. VSEPR_VOID, what size and joint type are you looking for? (14/20, 24/40, etc?)

VSEPR_VOID - 14-11-2017 at 01:56

I am looking for 24/40 glassware but out of curiosity what is the pricing on the other sizes? How much are you selling the 24/40 glassware for? I am looking for round bottom flaks (between 1000ml and 500ml) and condensers for the most part along with stoppers, and assorted adapters.

You're the one doing the periodic table display, right? Did you ever get any ruthenium? I could send some. Also I have some nice selenium samples, if you want. But I'd actually be quite interested in that sodium bromide.

Can't edit my first post, so I'd also add that I have:

As far as stuff I need:

Note that if anyone got my name for Secret Santa, I may have answered the survey with the assumption that I really WAS asking Santa for things, and Santa had an unrestricted Sigma Aldrich account. So this thread might be better for that, for whoever got my name.

What Arduino attachments do you have specifically?

EDIT: I'm also interested in the MMO electrodes, Ru ingot, and Se pieces (which allotrope?)

I can offer CsCl, In, BaCl2 and Ba(NO3)2, various pieces of plastic or ground glassware, and some circuitry parts if you want/need them (high-power motors, thermistors, water pumps, ESCs, that sort of thing).

I don't want to get rid of the bulk of the Ru ingot, but it's difficult for me to remove material from it. I do have a small amount of Ru sponge, but it's less than a gram. To sell the Ru, I'd have to convert it into sodium ruthenate, I imagine. The Se is black and glassy.

As for arduino stuff:

I'd be interested in the thermocouple adapters, if they're K-type compatible. Also maybe the prototype shields, though I've never used them before. Are they compatible with Arduino Mega/2560's?

VSEPR_VOID - 14-11-2017 at 14:57

This thread reminds me of people trading rare Pokemon cards.

Mr. Rogers - 14-11-2017 at 19:26

I need Potassium Binoxalate. The only place I can find this is on Ebay for like $45/30gm shipped. I don't know why it's so expensive and hard to find.

I have lots of iron and copper compounds as well as lots of various metal shot incl. nickel and antimony.

I would also trade 1L 98% EtOH for 30gm Potassium Binoxalate.

I probably only have one extra prototype shield, and yeah, they fit on the megas. They just only cover part of it. The thermocouple adapters are indeed k-type, however I had trouble testing them last I checked. I'm pretty sure it was a different piece of hardware that was the problem. I'd probably throw in an H-bridge motor controller because I have twice as many as I'd ever use, and each one can control two motors. For anyone unaware, an H-bridge controller allows you to run a DC motor in both directions without a power source that supplies a negative voltage.

I also have an extra one of those blue and white OLED displays. Nice for displaying output in text form.

You can get that just by neutralizing oxalic acid with potassium hydroxide, you know. I could whip some up for you in exchange for some nickel shot and/or antimony. Nickel shot would be a lot more convenient for making Raney nickel than the Canadian nickels that I currently use as my nickel source.

I'm glad people are participating! I like the idea of acquiring new things without having to spend money, and I see I'm not the only one. I've also learned that Dr. Bob is probably a glassware hoarder. I don't think this comes as a surprise to anyone here. ;)

I love the idea, but I tend to get attached to my chemicals, and there are few things that I have in excess that are actually worth trading anyway. Generally I only buy things in bulk if I need them in bulk.

JJay - 14-11-2017 at 20:36

You can make potassium bioxylate by combining boiling concentrated equimolar solutions of potassium hydroxide and oxalic acid. I'm not 100% sure what the best way is to purify it, but filtering, drying, powdering and washing it with hot methanol, drying on the pump, and and further drying it in a dessicator seem like reasonable steps.

I am interested in bipy, TEMPO, and n-phenylanthranilic acid. I have a fixed-speed overhead stirrer and a 300 watt stirplate that I would trade for something like calcium triphosphate.

Not to argue, but don't you ever have situations where something is only available in a quantity that's many times what you need? Or see a chemical for sale that's like $15 for 100g and $25 for 1000g, and feel like you'd be getting ripped off if you bought the 100g amount?

Lol, I have that all the time, like I once wanted to try making potassium via reducing it with magnesium in boiling paraffin oil. And I needed a littke tert-butanole, like a few mL's as a catalyst., and what I do, I just buy a whole liter of it lol. But I often find a dufferent use for them later.

Heck, I have traded more than once with members here.

Alright, admittedly I tend to be a bit of a chemical hoarder... Sometimes I have more of something than I'd ever need but I still hold onto it cause I feel like I'd regret it if I needed to buy more later on after trading some away.

Such occurrences are rare anyway though, because I have mostly gone in on bulk buys with other SM members in the past, or bought smallish amounts of reagents from other members.

jamit - 16-11-2017 at 02:05

Anyone interested in sodium metal? I also have 10lbs of sodium benzoate, 10lbs of potassium permanganate, and 20lb of sodium sulfide. I also have lots of 250ml erlenmeyer flask and one soxhlet extractor. if interested pm me.

Sulaiman - 19-11-2017 at 06:35

I have quite a few common chemicals that I have previously made up as a 'kit' for a temporary member here, along with glassware, sprit lamp etc.

this is a list of chemicals that I feel comfortable posting;
Attachment: Postable.ods (13kB)
This file has been downloaded 406 times
I also have some glassware that I am willing to donate.

For the cost of p&p I can send samples of any or all on the list.
Sample size depends on my stock size and mood and may affect p&p cost.

Might be part of a starter kit for you ?
(I have a few introductory experiments in text for to go with the 'kit' if required)
U2U me ... especially for noobs

EDIT: If not within UK I may have to remove some items, e.g. redP to USA, within EU I guess no problem)

Yes. I have selenium powder now but I still do not have ruthenium. As for the sodium bromide, I would be interested in trading for ammonium chloride, choline chloride, or an MMO electrode, whatever you think is a fair deal. U2U me.

Melgar - 30-11-2017 at 06:44

Filtered some precipitated ruthenium. Can probably recover several times this amount. Interested?

Does anyone have any phosphorus pentoxide for sale/trade?

Chemvironment - 11-12-2017 at 09:05

I have 3-4 500 ml Sep funnels, 5-6 stemless funnels and hundreds of 100 ml media bottles (almost no lids) I could trade if anyone interested

Melgar - 16-12-2017 at 00:28

Still behind on sorting everything out here. Haven't been able to go through my chemistry stuff, due to it not being stored nearby, and the fact that I don't have a car. Have to rely on others to access it for now. Everything is uncertain, and it's really annoying.

I do have P2O5 in my stuff. A decent amount of it too. It was a little disappointing using it though. It's super powerful as a desiccant, but almost never gives clean reactions. It also turns into a thick gel almost immediately, which then becomes a passivating layer of sorts for the rest of it. This can be mitigated by coating silica gel with it, but it still tends to turn many organic compounds to tar. It'd be most useful as an inorganic reactant, I'd imagine.

Recently, HEET changed the design of their bottles, and the new, larger caps fit neatly onto the standard 100 mL glass bottles. The old caps fit onto 25 mL and 50 mL bottles, generally. The old bottles tend to be seen more in places that don't turn over their inventory that quickly. Whereas if you go to Walmart, you'll probably only see the newer ones.

250g Vanadium Pentoxide, I way over ordered after a brain fart! I got the last bit right, but for some reason stuffed the first bit up! I bet you can guess what i thought i was ordering :D.

Anyway i am after chems in return. I will split this as 250g is alot...not as much as the 1Kg i ended up ordering (ouch).

Cryolite. - 17-12-2017 at 21:41

This might be a bit out of the scope of this post, but a seller on ebay has listed 25 kg of hydroxylamine sulfate for $330. This is a great price per kilo, but of course that's a huge amount to commit to buying. Would anyone here be interested in doing a group buy? I was thinking we could get 5 of us to commit for 80 dollars each (the extra covers shipping) and I would then send out 5 kilos of the hydroxylamine to everyone.

Melgar - 17-12-2017 at 23:32

All of my net worth is tied up between a cryptocurrency claim and a Labor Department claim. Should have a lot of money coming my way eventually. I wish I knew when though.

Close! I'd need to scope out places that'd be okay with me setting up a fume hood there first.

JJay - 27-12-2017 at 00:18

I am still looking for a lab quantity of red phosphorus. Ideally I'd like to get 500 grams. I am extremely reluctant to order it from outside the U.S. due to potentially draconian enforcement of shipping regulations. I am not in a big hurry, but it would be a nice thing to have.

WangleSpong5000 - 27-12-2017 at 00:51

I would really like some

NaBH4 and/or LiAlH4

I am not comfortable ordering from local Australian supplier, and 90% won't supply to end users anway and I'm not comfortable ordering it from ebay as all I buy from ebay is chemistry related items. (nothing like condensors anyway... the police WILL come to my house)

I was more than happy to sign the EUD for all my lab glass and the 2 year period has passes so theoretically the supply company discarded my records or at least is no longer obliged to show the to the police if they requset it. I just don't trust them. Not the lab supply place but the government.

NaBH4 and/or LiAlH4 are not illegal here but they are classed as category 1 precursors (as is pretty much anything useful) we have very little explicitly stated rights in my country, all our rights are by implication under Commonwealth law which means any lawyer can fight for or against them.

The aforementioed chemicals are not simple things to make and are useful for so many things. I'd be happy to buy a small amount from anybody that has them. I don't have anything of interest to swap at this point as I am just starting out. But I would love to add these to my collection to be used at a later time when I have more knowledge and experience not to mention more chemicals.

Gurt - 3-1-2018 at 16:10

I've got a good bit of NaBH4 to offer for sale or trade. I'm in the U.S, so that limits me to only domestic offers.

U2U me if anyone is interested!

If anyone wants to be a part of a group buy on hydroxylamine sulfate, U2U me. Right now I'm thinking that everyone'll pitch in 80 bucks and I'll send out 5 kilograms of hydroxylamine in return. We need at least four other people to make this work though.

NEMO-Chemistry - 15-1-2018 at 06:23

I have some burette's, most are fairly old but unused. Majority are goldline class A, I have a 1960's calibration certificate for them!! They havnt been used since this was issued lol.

Not sure of volumes and markings etc, i will post some pictures later if anyone in the UK is interested.
Also i am about to order several chemicals in bulk, if anyone wants some let me know.

these are in 25KG or KG amounts, I need to know amount your interested in as they will need to be repacked.
Potassium Hydroxide
Sodium Hydroxide
Potassium Nitrate

Min order quantity is 500g, not sure of price yet but will be below lowest on ebay UK. I might add some more to list shortly

Gurt - 16-1-2018 at 14:36

I should also add that I have a few litres of benzene. I ordered a bit more than I need and would be willing to swap or sell a couple litres.

ninhydric1 - 16-1-2018 at 17:17

NEMO, how much for 500 g KOH + shipping to CA?

DavidJR - 18-1-2018 at 11:51

I have:

Anhydrous sodium sulphite (>20kg)
Hydroquinone (benzene-1,4-diol)
Phenidone (1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone)
Ammonium chloride
Selenium powder (only about 8g)

I want:
potassium bromide or sodium bromide
benzotriazole
4-(methylamino)phenol sulfate (metol)
Ferric ammonium oxalate

Count me in.

Cryolite. - 28-1-2018 at 17:26

So I've now got two people interested in hydroxylamine. We only need two more!

On another note, I recently managed to score some nice rhodium beads at an incredible price. Does anyone here want to purchase a small (~1-2 gram) bead for an element sample? I can offer a reasonable discount on the spot price. I'll post some pictures if there's any interest.

elementcollector1 - 28-1-2018 at 19:28

I wouldn't mind a rhodium bead, if it's under the current spot price - $60 a gram is not within my price range...

LD5050 - 1-2-2018 at 15:47

I'm looking for some glassware of 24/40 and 14/20. I need a 24/40 straight path condenser, distillation head, thermometer adaptor, and boiling flasks of different sizes. Also I'm looking to get my hands on a 14/20 distillation set up.
Also looking for cyclohexylamine, GAA, and some others

For trade I have:

Acetic anhydride
Red phosphorous
Benzaldehyde
Sodium perborate
Sodium bisulfate
And some others let me know if you have anything in particular maybe I will have it.

WangleSpong5000 - 2-2-2018 at 17:45

I have a single neck 1 L RBF 24/29, a 250mm 24/29 Alihn condenser and (maybe) a 500ml sep funnel to swap for stuff if anyone's interested?

LOOKING FOR 24/40 distillation head, thermometer adaptor, straight path condenser, and vacuum distillation adaptor.

ALSO NEED 19/22 pressure equalizing addition funnel and boiling flasks of different sizes.

THINGS I HAVE FOR TRADE:

Red phosphorous
DMF
Nitroethane
Acetic anhydride
Benzaldehyde
Sodium borohydried

ampHoteric - 24-2-2018 at 17:36

NEMO I’m in the same boat as ninhydric1, I’d like some KOH but I’m in CA so shipping is probably not practical. If you have a local solution and it’s not too much trouble I’d appreciate it, thanks!

JJay - 25-2-2018 at 02:52

I have an extra 24/29 distillation head, thermometer adapter, and straight path condenser, but there is a chip in the condenser, and they are just cheap Chinese and heavily used. I think I have a lightly used 24/29 105 degree vacuum takeoff adapter around here somewhere... I'm somewhat interested in DMF and acetic anhydride, but seeing how you can get a distillation setup from Nanshin for around $30 I think, you probably don't want my old glassware. But feel free to drop me a message if you would like to trade a small amount of one or both.

You might want to check with Dr. Bob; he sometimes has some 24/40 and 19/22 items.

I actually need a small 24/40 pressurized addition funnel (125-250 mL), a small 24/40 Squibb funnel (125-250 mL), and a small 24/40 glass frit (60-350 mL). I'm somewhat interested in powder addition funnels with an auger and pressure equalizing arm. I'm looking for bulk potassium nitrate since all the local sources seem to have dried up. I have lots of basic bulk chemicals and a few hard-to-find exotics, but I'm not likely to give up the exotics except for other exotics.

I've been thinking about doing a bulk potassium iodide buy. Would anyone be interested in $70 kilograms?

I have an unopened 4l of ACS Acetone from Sigma stock# 179124-4L, a little formic acid 95%. Also a Clay-Adams Safety-Head Centrifuge / Model No. 0011
I’m sure I’ll add a few more things to this as well.

ninhydric1, KOH is fairly easy to find if you know where to look.

Artisanal soap makers use it. So somewhere, probably close to you, KOH is hiding in plain sight.

Would anyone be interested in an older flash evaporator? I may be looking to get rid of it if I decide I won’t have much use for it.

Do you still have the KMnO4, the erlenmeyers and the Na2S? I would be interested in two 250ml elrlenmeyer flasks, 200g of potassium permanganate and 100g of Na2S. I am willing to trade multiple items or to pay. U2U me if you'd like to sell/trade.
